Cependant, ce petit port d'échouage a joué un rôle historique immense car c'est de là que Guillaume le Conquérant embarqua à bord de la Mora lors de la conquète de l'Angleterre en 1066. C'est aussi la que Henri 1er Beauclerc, quatrième fils de Guillaume et roi d'Angleterre, perdit la plus grande partie de sa famille lors du naufrage de la Blanche-Nef en 1120. BARFLEUR: located at the north-eastern tip of the Cotentin peninsula, Barfleur is the smallest town in the county of La Manche. Nevertheless, Barfleur played a significant role in history as it is where William the Conqueror borded ship La Mora on his way to conquer England. It is also the place where Henry Ist, fourth son of William, king of England, lost most of its family in the sinking of The White Ship.
