During World War II, photographic reconnaissance played a major part in military intelligence. The techniques that were developed then gave intelligence officers the ability to view the enemy's activities in 3D, and make highly accurate assessments.
The Aerial Reconnaissance Archives (TARA) at Keele University currently hold over five million World War II aerial reconnaissance photographs of Western Europe that have been deposited by The UK Ministry of Defence.
