Why is there sixteen cents in the waterproof match container?
Back about fifteen years or so, I was a volunteer captain of a charity rest stop. There were several hundred walkers to pass through. We had several eight foot tables loaded with apples, oranges, bananas, cookies, snack cakes, water, ect. As you can see, we had plenty.
A woman volunteer walked toward me with a man who's appearence was tattered. One could see he was a man who was down on his luck. He offered me a dime, a nickle, and a penny to help our cause. I offered him any thing we had on the tables, but he told me, "There are other people that can use it more than me".
I dedicate this cache to a man who's pride, and compassion was more important to him than, food, or recognition. When I asked for a name, he remained silent, turned, and walked away. I will always remember him as, "Sixteen Cents."
