Artists’ Statement

The 10 Year Volunteer Anniversary Geocoin was designed to symbolize Geocaching HQ’s appreciation for the community volunteers.

The design was inspired by ancient European and Chinese coins. The antique finish of this coin brings out the natural beauty of its details.

Both faces have been decorated with elements that symbolize the community volunteers’ contribution to the game:

  • A Roman numeral “X” and a diamond for the 10 year anniversary
  • Dill for protection against evil
  • Chamomile flowers for patience
  • A compass for direction — we’d be lost without you!
  • A traditional cache for love of the game
  • A brick for a strong foundation
  • Branches of sage for wisdom

This geocoin was designed by Nathan Cavanaugh and Roxxy Goetz at Geocaching HQ in Seattle, Washington.

Current Goal

This trackable is one of a small set created for Bernbom as a reward for 10 years of active contribution to the geocaching community, specifically for his contribution to then Danish translation of the geocaching app.

Bernbom gave me the coin, but of course I can not hold on to it - it needs to travel! So the mission is: Visit as many countries as possible where Bernbom has not yet logged a geocache find - and take pictures. Would be lovely if the pictures include local flags, local specialties or sights connected to the country.
