The 2005 Texas Challenge Trophy

At 4:15pm on Saturday, 12 March 2005, the highly anticipated announcement was made amid a large gathering of weary, barbeque-stuffed, outdoorsy folks prone to fiddling with electronic gadgetry and toys with dog tags attached to them.

North Texas won the 2005 Texas Challenge! For the second consecutive year! This travel bug is a symbol of the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of the North Texas team.

The Texas Challenge event was outstanding. Held in Cedar Hill State Park south of Dallas, it was very well planned and organized. Geocachers from all around Texas came to the event to form the teams of Southeast Texas (SETX), Central Texas (CENTX), and North Texas (NTX). I read a log where someone stated it well - "the world's greatest people."

A good time was had by all, and I believe, except for weariness, everyone stayed safe and healthy.

Please do not actually leave this travel bug in a cache. Pass the travel bug along by personally handing it off to another person.

Remember, there are a lot of cachers watching this bug. Please log it accurately. Also, it does not need to be logged in each cache you visit. This bug is not about mileage, it is about people and photos.

I had it in my grubby little hands for a moment. I held it aloft in a moment of self-gratification.
I just wish it was a cup so we could fill it full of champagne and deliver a toast to our skillful adversaries when we drank from it.

I've enjoyed having the 2005 Texas Challenge Winner's Trophy stay with me for these few short days.
"Trofe" (I just kinda started calling him that) and I did all kinds of stuff together. Of course we cached, we played soccer, we went shopping, and other stuff. We took photos.
"Trofe" has many other people to visit and experiences to, uh, experience. I'm ready to introduce him to someone else. Will do so soon.

  • bennet And "Trofe" Doing Some Caching In The Dark Trofe went with me on one of my pre-dawn cache runs. He thought it was under that big rock. I was really focused on the cedar. He was right.
  • "Trofe" Tries Out For Goalkeeper I am always keeping an eye out for goalkeepers. Trofe came with me to a couple of our soccer practices. Although he is a little wiry and short, I thought, "why not?", and gave him a shot. 
He won't be keeping goal. He's just a shy slow. Just barely.
  • Quit Your Whining, Boy, "Trofe" Is Riding Up Front Get in the back seat and hush up, anything95. Trofe is our guest.
  • "Trofe" Visits The Crazy Cats I took Trofe to visit the huge cat village that lives in Trinity Park near my home. My very first geocache hide is within this large cat village, and is called "Deuteronomy's Lair".
The village has been growing, and is now populated by several dozen cats.
Local people do a lot to take care of them, bringing food, changing water, bringing shelter.
The cats were a little antsy (right word?) today. It was cold, and they did not know Trofe.

I'm sure most people like me will be happy to snap a photo with it at some event while logging a grab and passing it immediately to the next person. That leaves time for those who want to keep it a few days and take it somewhere interesting. 😎

I think it would be good to post a list of NTx attendees. We should get it moving around to others prior to the Easter egg hunt. When I got the trophy last year, I made sure I did not have it for more than one week to give others a chance to have it.
