About This Item

About the UV Sensor

Comprising a metal sensor plate and a yellow filter overlay, the UV sensor changes colour in just a few seconds when exposed to the sun’s UVA rays.

This Travel Bug is so named to remind of the problem of holes in the ozone layer caused by CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions. Areas of the world under such holes endure extremely high UVA levels.

Please do your part to personally minimise your energy use and CO2 emissions:

  •  Support global initiatives to address industrial emissions.
  •  Walk and/or use public transport wherever possible, in preference to using your own car.
  •  Change to energy efficient light bulbs.
  •  Ensure your home is well insulated to minimise heat loss.
  •  Turn off lights and appliances (turning off is preferable to leaving on standby) after use.
  •  Consider timer switches for things such as heaters.
  •  If possible, consider alternatively powered vehicle(s) (e.g. LPG) and/or home solar/wind power generation.
  •  Learn more about your Carbon Footprint: www.carbonfootprint.com.

Using the UV Sensor

Remove the yellow filter to expose the picture on the fob to sunlight for 15 seconds.

Compare the colour change to the simple scale below to inform your decision on what level of protection you need.

For the Log

Please log your location and the UV level at the time of your find.
