The Laughing Song
Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks, from ‘Striking it Rich’)
Listen to it on http:\www.tonywyer.co.uk/sounds/song.wma
Its a 3meg file

There once was a boy, who lived all alone by the sea,
He was a charmer, a charmer of the highest degree,
But he was lonely and sometimes there was no one to charm,
So this clever boy had a way to charm himself, he meant no harm,
He’d dance and sing and laugh and smile,
and after a while he would roll right on the ground.
He’d sing his song all day long,
Had no words, just this crazy sound,

Called the laughing song,
Ha di la!
Called the laughing song,
Ha di la!
Called the laughing song, all day long, the laughing song,
He’d laugh, he’d laugh, ha ha, he he…………..

There were days when the boy was so wound up he practically laugh his head off.
Dancing and singing, giggling and wiggling, he’d get so silly he could hardly let off.
On one such day a ship came by and to his surprise heard the funny noise.
The captain noticed the giggling and wiggling and with a laugh cried,
Look at that boys!
Whilst in the middle of a backstroke, the boy going to the ship, he laughed even more.
And soon all the crew could not help themselves they were rolling all over the floor.

Called the laughing song,
Ha di la!
Called the laughing song,
Ha di la!
Called the laughing song, all day long, the laughing song,
He’d laugh, he’d laugh, ha ha, he he…………..

The boy heard the crew say that with his secret charm, come with us, you should be a star.
So off he went with the ship back to his native land that was not too far.
Whilst rehearsing his act he made the grandiose mistake with living with his long lost uncles,
Could you blame them for wondering about a nephew who could not seem to lose the chuckle.
But his song went on and on and on,
And that about all he had to say,
His uncles did not realise the wrong they did when they had him put away.

Called the laughing song,
Ha di la!
Called the laughing song,
Ha di la!
Called the laughing song, all day long, the laughing song,
He’d laugh, he’d laugh, ha ha, he he…………..
