Gaston wants to swim along the Elbe to the North Sea and then make small steps along the continental coast of Europe to southwest and the Mediteranean Sea until he reaches Italy. He really likes water, so do not place him in caches farther than 10 km from river or sea, please.

Several big animals in Prague ZOO fell victim to the flood devastating Bohemia and neighbouring countries in August 2002.
The hero among them was one of the most popular inhabitants of ZOO, a 12-year-old seal named Gaston who escaped with two other seals from their pool with a wave of floodwater and swam around 400 kilometres down the swollen Vltava and Elbe rivers. Two of the seals were soon captured near Prague, but Gaston was still on escape. He was recaptured in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany, five days later, but died from shock and exhaustion later that night. However, to the zookeepers' great surprise, many months after Gaston's escape, his mate Bara gave birth to a daughter - who was christened Abeba (meaning "Flower" in Amharic language). The remembrance of Gaston, the brave seal, now lives in his descendant...

Der kleine Kerl ist in all den Jahren nicht sehr weit gekommen! Vielleicht schafft er es von Münster (Westf) aus, an die Küste zu gelangen. Genau wie sein großes Vorbild scheint das Schicksal es nicht sehr gut mit ihm zu meinen 😮 . Immerhin ist er tief im Binnenland auf einem Berg gefunden worden. Ich wünsche ihm jedenfalls viel, viel Glück auf seiner weiteren Reise. Gruß Findoline
