Current Goal

Larry has been set off in Florida on a Sister's Weekend visit. He was the only guy allowed to join us at the annual event in 2003. Our original goal was to have him join us for Sister's Weekend 2004 -- but he's been on the road since then. Sister's Weekend is in Napa, CA in March of 2007. Can he make it west by then? or will he be off on another adventure? Let us know.

About This Item

Larry is a friendly sort of guy and eager to see the world with lots to say to his friends.

Larry decided to come home with us, to hang out with his friends. Will release as soon as he is ripe.

Larry is on his way again. As we logged him into the Milford Memory Box, he let out a resounding "Oookaaaay!" I think he's glad to be moving along now.

His original mission is long over, and his owners are missing in action. I fancy the notion that Larry could be photographed with his vegetable cousins, wherever they may be found. Farm stands, produce departments, kitchens, gardens - you name it. Take his picture and post it here, and let us know what Larry had to say about his visit.

As for destination, his owners live in Nappa, CA. Maybe he could head that way?

    • Larry checks out Folkcat's knitting I don't have a garden, but I knit - a lot. Larry got to hang out with me and this sock I was knitting while he was here.

Official word from Groundspeak is that there is no adoption of Travel Bugs unless the owner themself does it, so I guess Larry has to stay an official orphan.

TwoGs, I hope you folks are able to come back to geocaching one day.

Gryphon and I will be releasing Larry this weekend. Officially, he will be mission-less. I'd like to suggest, though, that we send Larry back to the neighborhood of Napa, California, which is where his owners live. Perhaps along the way he can get photographed with his vegetable cousins? Farm stands, fields, kitchens, produce departments...maybe there's even a Cucumber Festival or something somewhere?

We've heard nothing from Larry's owners in over a month, so we've contacted Groundspeak with a request to adopt him.

When I told Larry about this, he said, "Have you seen my hairbrush?" I think he expects to be staying with us!

We are awaiting contact from Larry's owners. They have been absent from geocaching.com since February this year; they have not logged a cache find since 2003. Larry has long since completed or passed the date of his mission, and is wandering aimlessly.

I have e-mailed the owners twice through the geocaching website, requesting that they let me know if they have a new mission for Larry. I also asked if they have left geocaching and would like to let Larry be adopted. My first e-mail to them was on July 4, and the second on the 14th. I stated in the second that if I didn't hear from them by the end of July, I would contact Groundspeak about adopting Larry.

In the meantime, Larry sits on my desk, awaiting some confirmation of his official status.

Gryphon and I picked up Larry at Quail Hill Quicky today - we'll move him to somewhere around the Wilton area.

Note on July 4, 2005: Larry isn't talking, so we're going to give him some minor surgery and recharge him before we send him on his way!

Note on July 10, 2005: Still awaiting contact from Larry's owner. I e-mailed them to ask what they might want for a new mission for Larry, but they haven't been at geocaching.com since February, and they haven't logged a cache find since 2003, so I wonder if Larry's actually abandoned? I'll wait a little longer before contacting Groundspeak about adopting him.

I also realized I made a faux pas when I put up a picture of Larry - it showed the number on the Travel Bug. Hadn't occurred to me not to do that. So I'm deleting the picture. I'll post a new one before we release him.
