My Mission is to go to someplace "Grand" to symbolize the Grand Opening of the Museum. I would like to go to any place there has history, to museums, to cemetery's, any place that has a meaning, which is anywhere.
The Old Capitol in Jackson has been a museum for a number of years. Prior to Hurricane Katrina it housed general exhibits about the history of the state as well as a hall of fame for famous folk from the state. After Katrina a complete restoration was undertaken with attention to the buildings original appearance. In an earlier restoration, the exterior brick was exposed and the faux limestone facade removed. It is now faux limestone over the brick except in the back which never had the faux finish. Originally the back of the building looked over wetlands so the founding fathers did not think it needed to be as impressive as the other three sides. Of course, the wetlands are gone and the state fairgrounds are in that area. Now the exhibits are focused only on the things that happened in the building. The most widely event was of course when the state level the union. The senate chamber has an excellent media presentation done by actors recreating the major arguments for succession and one from a senator who did not support it. When the restoration was finished in January 2009, the building was opened to the public once again. The key was distributed to people attending that event.

It's So Grand est maintenant dans un nouveau lieu chargé d'histoire: en arrière plan se trouvent une église et les ruines du donjon d'un château du 11ème siècle qui projettent dans le ciel leurs silhouettes évoquant le roi et la reine...
