Travel far and wide to many caches and meet many people. You might list a ZIP code at or near where Mr. ZIP has been.
The U.S. Postal Service (formerly Post Office Department) introduced the Zone Improvement Plan (ZIP) during the 1960s that identified Zones and Locations by a 5-digit number to help sort and deliver the mail. Mr. ZIP was the mascot to help introduce the program and encourage people to use the numbers to speed their mail along.
The TB is a set of Mr. ZIP cuff links attached to the travel bug dog tag.
I am starting Mr. ZIP out on San Juan Island in the State of Washington at Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
Someone swiped the cuff links (after only a week!). So thanks to the help of fellow Geocacher, Sailor30, another USPS item has replaced the missing Mr. ZIP to continue the journey of this travel bug. (September 2008).
