Current Goal

FAILcaching's mission is to gather great stories of caching gone Horribly, Hilariously Wrong.

Please do not log "visited" caches. I want to keep a very high percentage of stories in the history. Thank you.

About This Item

So...that happened...

A bad day caching isn't always better than a good day at work.

Story behind the picture:

I was out in Arizona with another cacher, a friend who was interested in learning about geocaching, and a muggle. We decided to pull over and chase after one that was maybe a tenth of a mile from the road. The ground looked like desert pavement, so we drove onto it. Whoops--not desert pavement after all! We found ourselves rapidly sinking into sugar sand! We buried that poor truck to its bumper. And to make matters worse, none of us could get a cell signal. My fellow cacher walked to the highway to get cell service and call for help.

The best part: When the tow truck arrived, it got stuck, too! We watched the experienced tow driver deftly extract both stuck vehicles.

The worst part: While the other experienced cacher and I dealt with the truck, our friend--who had never found a geocache before--said to us,

"Is this what you guys are looking for?"

We signed the logbook:

"Took Nothing.

Left number for tow truck.

TFTC."

Our caching went wrong one day when we accidentally left the GPSR on the hood of the car. We were a 1/2 mile away before we realized our mistake. We returned to find a debris field at least 50 feet long due to all the traffic in the shopping mall parking lot!! We retrieved what big pieces we could and the broken GPSR is now a cache itself:)

I found you and will see where you can go.
I have had a number of "bad luck 🤕" things to me.

I went to a cemetery parked in the entrance walked over to get the cache with my daughter to come back and see my van sank right there. But we got it out.

My friend and I went to another cemetery to get a cache it looked good to drive what I thought was a path and turned out it was not. 3/4's the way in I looked at her she looked at me and said we are sinking I said yeah I know. It took her and 3 men to push me out of that one and a couple hours.

I've fallen in swamps that vapor lock you in once it gets you, I've fallen in ditches full of water and a number of others things.

Lets see where I can drop you off at now. TFS
