To gather intelligence on as many geocaches as possible, as fast as possible, while avoiding detection by muggles.
Unofficially nicknamed the "Blackbird," the SR-71 was developed as a long-range strategic reconnaissance aircraft capable of flying at speeds over Mach 3.2 and at an altitude of 85,000 feet. The first SR-71 to enter service was delivered in 1966 and due to politics, it was retired in 1990. However, the USAF still kept a few SR-71s in operation up until 1998, after a few were brought back to service in 1995. The aircraft flew so fast and so high that if the crew detected a surface-to-air missile launch, the standard evasive action was simply to accelerate. NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) at Edwards AFB, CA flew the SR-71 from 1991 until the program was cancelled in late 2001.

found this on my afternoon hike, I will help it on it's way to Alaska when I return.......I'm sure it will get a lot of fly time on it's way there.
We saw this one in the hands of kocoa13 as it climbed up the hill to I Pledge Allegiance. Good luck on your travels!
Blackbird is in a great spot, it is at the base of a flagpole guarding Fort Irwin, Ca. Here is a pic, thanks for sharing with us!

This plane zoomed out of Storm Troopers, off to the wild blue yonder!
Dropped this one in Spenceville Wildlife Area, near Beale AFB. Planes fly over this spot all the time, so it seemed fitting.
Found this one on St. Patrick's Day and will take it to a cache near an Air Force Base soon. Or perhaps take to to a post in Southern Cal, not sure which...... HazelBell
Will move it along
