Retrieve It from a Cache 7/26/2009 ReefPilot retrieved it from Washington Square Park New York   Visit Log

While on the nice layover in downtown NYC, I decided to walk from our hotel (near Penn Station) to the Financial District. Great walk (around 5 miles with some zig-zagging), nice weather, not too many tourists out on a early Sunday morning. Found "Washington Square Park" virtual cache along the way. Took the subway back to to Penn Station, got ready for my afternoon departure back to South America.

Day 4 - Got going early, short drive down to see Split Rock Lighthouse. There are several caches in the area, but the kids were tired and we had a long (265 miles) drive ahead, so we took the tour of the lighthouse and continued on. Passed through Duluth, MN to see the Lift bridge and a few ships in the harbor. Upon leaving Duluth, we stopped at the Southbound I-35 rest stop on top of the hill overlooking the city/harbor. Grabbed the cache "Thompson Hill TB Hotel" while at the rest stop. Got home before dark, got unpacked, then I had to pack for my early morning commute to Houston, TX for a 5-day IAH-BOG-EWR-BOG-IAH-AUS-IAH trip.

Day 3 - Drove 54 miles to Temperance River State Park, which had the nicest camp sites of the three parks. Nice walk around the park for the 4-stage multi cache "Temperance River State Park Wildlife Safari". We now have 4 of the 72 Safari caches, almost done ;-)

Day 2 - On our drive to Judge C.R. Magney State Park we realized we had some extra time so we added a short drive to Grand Portage State Park (total distance today around 105 miles), which is located on the absolute North East tip of the State of Minnesota. Unfortunately the State park is under some construction and closed on weekdays, so we had to turn around. Once we arrived at Judge Magney, we set up camp and we out of the short walk to find the only cache in the park, "Judge C.R. Magney State Park Wildlife Safari". The next morning we went out for a 3 miles, very vertical walk to see Devil's Kettle waterfall.

Day 1 of our 4 day family RV adventure. Left the Twin Cities (MN) for a 4-hr, 225 miles drive to Gooseberry Falls State Park in Northern Minnesota, North of Duluth, MN along the North Shores of Lake Superior. 4 adults, 2 young kids and 3 large dogs (each weighing > 90 lbs) Arrived at the State Park, set up camp, had dinner and went out for 2 caches. The first was the "Gooseberry Falls State Park Wildlife Safari", our second in the 72 cache serious set up in the Minnesota State Parks. Then walked along the shores of Lake Superior and picked up "LAKE SUPERIOR: FIRE & ICE" Earth cache. The next morning we walked up the the famous Gooseberry Falls and found another Earth cache, "Gooseberry Falls" as well as the virtual cache, "A Piece of the Past". The weather was cool (high of 70 F during the day, 50 F at night). We also received rain each night. Fortunately we stays nice a dry in the RV.
