About This Item

AMTG Skinguy 2006 GC 1

Mid to large size coin with heft. 1.75 inches by 1.5 inches 3.25 mm thick 24 grams polished nickel.  200 coins minted.  Available in other metal colors.  Unusual question mark shape. The front of this coin is all about enamel. There is a smile done in yellow enamel snuggled in the icon of a puzzle cache done in black enamel. The bottom period of the "?" says "SkinGuy".  The reverse is plain shiny metal. There is slight enamel in the relief lettering. It reads "When you find the cache the pain is gone". 2006. A nice coin.

Info about the coin all from other people:  The personal geocoin of SkinGuy, a geocacher from Twin Falls, Idaho. SkinGuy likes puzzle caches, and that's what this geocoin is all about. SkinGuy has 32 puzzle caches as of 2025.

The circulation amounts to 500 coins (according to the trackable list Groundspeak).

SkinGuy wrote mel-whv about his coin: I designed the coins myself, and they were made by CoinsAndPins. About 200 silver coins were minted. Some of them were sold, others were passed on to friends. Furthermore, 50 gold coins were produced. Very few of them were sold. There was also a very limited mintage of 25 coins in Black Nickel. None of them were sold. Some received friends, others were given away as AGV prizes.
The quote on the back is from a friend's log entry after finding a very difficult cache: "When the cache is found, the pain is gone."

He gave away his first finished coins to friends from 15.08 and presented them on 21.08 at the event he organized "It's Time to Go -- a mystery event...".

SkinGuy activated its first coin with its beautiful and simple design on August 23, 2006 and informed the coiner community about the appearance of the personal coin on the geocaching forum on the same day.

In December 2024, I contacted SkinGuy as part of my search for information about an "Idaho 2006 Geocoin".
Only a few days later, I received a detailed email from Chris with answers to the questions I had asked.
I was happy to read that Chris wanted to send me some coins from the early days of Idaho so that their story would also be recorded in this online project.

Now they have arrived in the Oderland and complement the story presented here with their photos. Thank you very much for your supportI can only confirm what your cacher friend BadAndy wrote in the geocaching forum at Christmas 2006 in response to your action of giving away 10 of your geocoins:

I was chatting with one of my cacher friends the other day and the question of generosity came up.
We both agreed that SkinGuy is the most generous person we know. He is also quite modest and would never bang on the drum ... So I do it for him. SkinGuy donates his time to raise money for a local school. He is also significantly involved in the planning and organization of community events. Although I'm fairly new to Twin Falls, it didn't take long for me to realize that he really is a leader of our community and I'm honored to call him my friend.

So many of my GCs have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. EL

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
