Go to Breakfast Buddies events of course.....
I believe that the Breakfast Buddies is the longest running serial event in geocaching history - if I am wrong about this, let me know.
The shape is shiny finish gold "sun-rays" with 30 pointy spikes. One point for each of the 30 Breakfast Buddy events. The MN shape is done is misty finish gold metal -- the sun is hard enamel and the rays are translucent orange and yellow. They are trackable, MNxxxx. Icon is a coffee cup - plain black and white.
My signature is visible under the enamel....... it turned out a LOT larger than I expected, but I'll live with it. It was supposed to be much more discreet than it is. Oh well.
The back is shiny gold with hard enamel - coffee and muffins with green background.
- 215 Regular coins have regular green enamel on the front ring
- 30 LE coins are made with translucent green enamel on the front ring (limited sale)
- 5 pepto-bismal coins made just for me (yup -- they are PINK, imagine that!)
- 1 orange coin was made for a special friend who often complains that there are not enough orange colored coins in the world -- (see what happens when you complain to the queenbee??)
So...... WHY in the world would I care about Breakfast Buddies events and WHY would I design a coin about it???
In case you didn't know, I am the person who originated the ongoing Breakfast Buddies events, and this coin is to commemorate the 30th official BB event. I think that is pretty amusing that it has lasted so long. Hopefully the MNGCA keeps it going for 30 more!!
Trivia -- the name "Breakfast Buddies" was supposed to be a temporary name - I just used it to submit the cache page and get it approved and online.
You may not remember, but many years ago there used to be a little biscuit sandwich at Burger King that was called Breakfast Buddy and that was my occasional snack on my way home from work in the wee morning hours when I was working shifts. These tiny sandwiches were only about 2 bites big and came in a pack of 4 "buddies" for 99 cents - perfect!
I was always going to come up with a really great name for the event once it was approved and then I would edit the cache page, but somehow I never thought of a name I liked and so unfortunately, this name never got replaced and now it is permanently named for a Burger King snack..... now you know the REST of the story.
Also, the BB event that this coin was made for was actually the 31st geo-breakfast -- we did have an informal (non-geoapproved) breakfast event in December 2003, but only 4 people showed up. So I figured the idea was doomed from the start (grin).... but I was wrong.
