About This Item

AMTG Team Eric07 Palatinatian GC 1

Mid size coin with heft. 1.5 inches antique copper or antique gold.  75 or 130 coins minted. The front has a beautiful 3D castle (Werttrum). The background metal texture is brushed. and there is raised script in the medallion that reads "Warteturm". The rim is red enamel with raised script that reads "Always lookin' for the cache"  and "let's go caching 2008". The reverse has 3-D work in the medallion and similar background metal texture. The design shows a map with a red enamel flag. The rim is red enamel and has script that reads "N49 degrees 39' and E8 degrees 6' " as well as "Team Eric07". Euro coin. A very nice personal coin.

Info on the coin:  It was manufactured by the German GeoCoinShop in a total edition of 380 coins in Antique Gold RE130, Antique Silver LE100, Antique Copper LE75 and Black Nickel LE75.

In the center of the 38 x 3 mm antique Goldcoin, a beautiful 3D view shows the waiting tower near Albisheim, a town on the Pfrimm east of Mannheim, the landmark of the team's hometown in southwest Germany.

In front of the brushed metal background, a map of the Palatinate (Palatinatian) with a red enamel flag can be seen on the back. It marks the position of the tower. The mountain, which is partly coloured green, is the 687 m high Donnersberg near Albisheim. On the edge, which is also enamelled in red, the coordinates N 49° 39' E 8° 6' can be read as the position of the waiting tower and "TEAM ERIC07".

The Wartturm ("watchtower") is an observation tower in the Wiehen Hills on the Wurzelbrink, a wooded hill that, at 319  metres, is the second highest in this hill range. The tower stands on the territory of the town of Lübbecke. The stone tower was built in 1857 by the barons (Freiherrn) of Bussche-Münch from Benkhausen and was completely renovated in 1996. The tower was erected in response to the increasing gymnastics and hiking movement in Germany at that time. During the Nazi era and the Second World War the tower acted for a time as a training area for the Hitler Youth as well as an observation point, for which purpose it had been increased in height by the addition of a wooden superstructure. In 1986 a radio competition took place at the Wartturm. In the early to mid-1980s a very high transmission mast stood next to the tower, that was significantly higher than the tower itself and, unlike the Wartturm, could be clearly seen from Lübbecke. The uninformed often say that the tower is linked to the medieval castle of Reineberg because of its castle-like appearance but are then often surprised to find that it is a product of the Modern Age.]

So many of my trackable have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave this in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. AL

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
