Kristian Moe (aka Muumitrollet), the designer of this coin, wrote:
"I made coins of all cities that meant something for me. Born in Bergen, dad from Bodø and lived for 12 years in Sandnes. Sandnes is very well known for biking, and have a few great athletes like Alexander Kristoff, the running brothers Ingebrigtsen and Narve Gilje Nordas. The shape of the coin is a Sandnesgauk, a music instrument from Sandnes and also the City symbole. The houses on the other side is Sandnes brygge. The pier of Sandnes."
