Zorja the fox
In a fairy-tale forest, where the trees whispered secrets to the wind and the streams sang quiet melodies, lived a little fox called Zorja. Her fur glowed like the morning dawn and her tail was dusted with stardust. She was the guardian of the magic of the forest. Her job was to keep the balance between humans and fairy creatures. Every morning, she would draw circles with her tail around the ancient oak tree in the centre of the forest to awaken the forces that protected the forest from the darkness.
But her magic was so special that people became interested in her too. Blinded by the power they could gain, one day they caught her in a cunning trap. Zorja was clever and cautious, but this time she underestimated human greed. They locked her in a cage and tried to force her to reveal the secrets of her magic. But Zorja gave nothing away and quietly planned her escape.
On the first clear night, when the full moon illuminated the night sky, Zorja gathered all her star power and broke through the cage. Just as she awakened the magic around the ancient oak every morning with her tail, this time she used it to create a dark mist thicker than the darkest night. It wrapped around her and covered her escape back to the safe shelter of the forest. From that moment on, she carefully hid herself from people. She became more cautious, but her heart never wavered. Despite bitter experiences, she kept her faith in the goodness of people.
When they were in trouble, she was still there to help. Few ever saw her, as she was as swift as the wind and as mysterious as the mist, but everyone knew the stories about her.
One day, a young shepherd wandered deep into the forest and lost himself in the thick shadows of the trees. Zorja, sensing his distress, appeared as a faint light between the branches. She led him through the tangle of paths until he glimpsed the lights of his home.
It is said that at dawn, the shine of her tail can still be seen among the trees, a reminder that Zorja still watches over the fairy forest and all who find themselves in it.
