Current Goal

In light of her work on MetroMapping, we invite you to visit any public transport site (underground, metro, train or bus), to take a picture and drop Ingebug off at a new cache. To start its journey, we took a picture at the train station in Deventer. Hopefully, you will help it travel to many new places!

About This Item

Ingebug

This travelbug, which we lovingly refer to as ‘Ingebug’, was created in honour of Ingeborg Griffioen. Ingeborg Griffioen was the driving force behind MetroMapping; an innovative tool to support shared decision-making in healthcare.

There are many decisions to make as a patient, including if and which treatments you want. Medical professionals can explain the treatment, the risks and benefits a patient can expect. However, each patient may have different wishes and different considerations, e.g. remaining self-sufficient or attending the wedding of a loved one.

Shared decision-making means that you have a say in your treatment, if you want to. In practice, this often turns out to be quite difficult. Patients and their significant others have to deal with many different healthcare professionals and need to process a lot of information quickly. At the same time they may feel helpless or overwhelmed by the disease itself. For healthcare professionals, it is not always clear how to engage with all the different types of patients in these decisions.

MetroMapping is a design method developed to create a visualization of a medical care path and contains a plan of action to (re)design that path together with care providers, patients and their representatives. The design method is called MetroMapping because the visualization was inspired by the London Underground map. If your interested, have a look at: Metromapping.org.

Ingeborg devoted her life to improving health care for patients and care professionals. Then in 2021, she turned out to be a cancer patient herself. Even while facing the uncertain and difficult process, she continued her work on MetroMapping.

In her spare time, Ingeborg and her late husband Wouter, greatly enjoyed geocaching. Thus, in honour of her life and work, we, her colleagues, created this travelbug. The coin shows the logo of MetroMapping and Panton, the company she founded (Panton.nl).
