Flat Stanley's goal is to visit as many different and unique places as possible. No limits, no requirements. We simply want to see him experience the world and share his travels with us through your logs.
Sabrina (of Finding Fraggle Rock) is a first grade teacher at Grafton Primary School in Ohio. The students in her class each year take part in The Flat Stanley Project. The following is some information about Stanley's origins:
Flat Stanley is the main character in a classic piece of children's literature entitled Flat Stanley. In the original book by Jeff Brown, Stanley Lambchop is squashed flat by a falling bulletin board. He discovers there are many advantages to being flat.
In our project, students make paper Flat Stanley's and mail them to friends and relatives around the world. For many young students, these letters that they write to friends and family are meaningful opportunities to use writing as a communication tool. It therefore motivates them to produce their best work while eagerly looking forward to responses.
The Flat Stanley Travel Bug you just picked up is a twist on this idea. The first graders in my class, and myself, are asking you to take part in our creative project. We hope that you will treat Stanley like a guest and companion. Take him on adventures, post logs and photographs. Be as creative as you would like.
Thank you for taking part in our project! Please keep Stanley moving from cache to cache. The first graders love reading the posts and keeping track of his journeys.
