Geocache Description:

Located not too far off of a bike trail, terrain shouldn’t be much of a problem. It’s about a mile from parking @ N 40 10.955  W 82 54.654. The path does seem to be popular, so some stealth may be required.

The cache contains an Uther figure that holds partial coordinates to the Excalibur cache. Please do not take this from the cache, and please try to bring scrap paper to jot the number down instead of taking paper from the log book. Thanks.

History of Castle Tintagel

The Fortress Tintagel was a mighty castle that once belonged to Gorlois, Duke of Cromwell, and his Duchess Ygerne, in the realm of Britain under the rule of a king named Uther Pendragon. Uther fell in love with the Duchess and soon he and Duke Gorlois went to war. Some legends say that the sorcerer Merlin called forth a dragon’s cloud to surround the Duke’s men, creating confusion, allowing Uther to slip past their defenses while Gorlois was away from the Castle. In either case Gorlois was slain in combat and Uther took Ygerne as his wife while ruling at Tintagel.

Less than a year later, Uther himself died on New Years night, unbeknownst to him, the very night his heir Arthur was born. Arthur did not stay at Tintagel, for the sorcerer Merlin took Arthur as Uther had promised in return for aiding him defeat Duke Gorlois. After Uther’s death, it is told that he was laid to rest at Stonehenge. And so the legend of King Arthur begins…
