Geocache Description:

The terrain may be difficult as there will be a fairly steep hill to go down. Please make sure to re-hide cache well, for if it falls it may be exposed.

The cache contains an Arthur figure that holds partial coordinates to the Excalibur cache. Please do not take this from the cache, and please try to bring scrap paper to jot the number down instead of taking paper from the log book. Thanks.

History of Arthur

Taken from Castle Tintagel as an infant, the sorcerer Merlin placed Arthur in the care Sir Ector, an old friend of Uther, Arthur’s father. For fourteen years Arthur spent his days as an unknown, learning the ways of chivalry and combat. All the while the princes of Britain warred with one another, fighting for power without a King to control them. The lands grew savage and the people of Britain suffered. But Merlin had a plan…

In the weeks before Christmas, Merlin sent messengers to the princes, calling them to London to discuss the selection of a new King. Through-out the month, many encampments were set up around the city, made up of the princes and their men. In the yard of a small chapel within London’s walls, there appeared a large stone pierced by a sword. Engraved upon it were the words “Whoso pulleth this sword from this stone is rightfully born King of all England.” Of course, the many powerful princes attempted to pull the sword free, each of them failing. It wasn’t until Arthur, on an errand to fetch his older brother’s forgotten sword, removed the sword from the stone that the truth of his true name and nobility came to light.

Within a year, Arthur was crowned and put to the test at war. His father, Uther, had many enemies, some of which did not like seeing a forgotten heir take the throne. It was then that Arthur was given Excalibur, a magical sword of great power, by the Lady of the Lake. Armed with Excalibur and the magic of Merlin, King Arthur fought his foes, chasing them through-out Britain, vanquishing them as he went. The last of these first great battles took place in the land of Camelard, while aiding King Leodegran, one of King Arthur’s greatest supporters. As Arthur entered the castle after defeating his foes, he spotted a beautiful and fair maiden in a tower window and instantly fell in love. She was King Leodegran’s daughter, and her name was Guinevere. The two were soon wed and King Arthur entered into the Golden Age of Camelot with the support of his Knights of the Round Table.
