Geocache Description:

This is the Mother of the Geo-Family Tree Cache. The idea behind this cache is to create a family of caches, which will stem from this one. But it's also just a regular cache hunt, so have fun and if you find the Seed Pod, you'll have an opportunity to expand the Geo-Family Tree.

Mother Tree has reached geopause, so she won't be producing anymore Seed Pods, but many of her offspring are still active, so find your Pod there!

This cache is located in the Dishman Hills Natural Area. Best access is from the 8th Street Trailhead. Coordinates for parking are N47 38.984 W117 18.171.

OK, the story behind this cache is as follows... One of my TBUGs ended up in a cache called "Spawner" in Pennsylvania, which I found was a spin-off of a cache called BREEDER . I thought this was such a neat idea that I decided to plant one in our own Spokane area. The idea is to pick up The Seed Pod if available, and place it into a NEW cache of yours. Then your cache, and any offspring it produces, will also be part of the Geo-Family Tree. I will add all links (relatives) of the Geo-Family Tree to this cache page so hopefully we can grow a pretty decent tree.

Update: In July 2004, I tried to contact Yrium to let him know about all the caches that have been created as a result of his Spawner cache. After awhile, I received an email from his wife, Whistlestick, who greatfully sent me the message below.

I'm sorry to inform you that Yrium lost his long battle with cancer this month. Thank you for brightening his life, the geocaching world has really touched his heart. I wish you happy caching.

This message also touched my heart, and I am glad that the Geo-Family Tree is still thriving, and is now, in memory of Yrium.

There are just a couple of rules to follow:

1. The The Seed Pod must be planted within 30 miles of the Mother Cache and

2. It must be planted within 30 days of discovery.

If you do pick up a pod and plant it from one of her offspring, please send me an email so I can update the family tree. NOTE: Despite the fact that Momma has passed into her golden years, you can still visit the cache and make a log, just like regular caches. Please email me if you have any questions.
