Geocache Description:

Cache is not at the coordinates above!

Note that this cache is hidden in a park that has seasonal access.  The signs at the front of the park state that it is open from April through October.  Please do not attempt to search for this cache when the park gates are closed and locked.

Dawn to dusk caching only!

In order to find this cache, you will first need to find the six "70's One-Hit Wonders" caches that are scattered throughout Geauga County. Each of these six caches contains lyrics to a song that was made popular in the 1970's by a group or solo artist who is considered to be a one-hit wonder. For the purposes of this cache series, a one-hit wonder is defined as any recording act that had a single song which reached the Top 40 list, as determined by Billboard magazine. After charting their single hit song, they faded out of sight, never to break into the Top 40 again.

In each cache in the series, you will find a set of lyrics attached to the log sheets. From those lyrics, you will need to determine the name of the song, and ultimately the year in which the song reached its highest position on the Billboard Top 40 chart. The final digit of that year will be required to determine the location of the final cache.

As an example for clarification, if a song was released in December of 1972, but did not reach the Top 40 chart until January of 1973, then the year you would be looking for is 1973, and the digit you would use is "3". Please do not give away any of the lyrics, song titles, or years in your logs or they may be deleted! However, if you have a favorite song from the 1970's that was made popular by a one-hit wonder, or if you have a favorite 1970's song in general, please feel free to mention it in your find log, along with any stories that might go along with it.

The six caches you will need to find are listed below, along with the formula to determine the location of the final cache.

A = 70's One-Hit Wonders: Geauga Iliad
B = 70's One-Hit Wonders: Geauga "Odyssay"
C = 70's One-Hit Wonders: Geauga Overlook
D = 70's One-Hit Wonders: Mineral-Rich Geauga
E = 70's One-Hit Wonders: Geauga Illustrated
F = 70's One-Hit Wonders: Geauga "Jollifications"

Final Coordinates are:

N 41° 3(D - F).(B - F)(2 x F + A)(E + F)  W 081° 0(D + F - C).(B - E)(C + F)(A x B)

The cache is located in a park a short driving distance from the posted coordinates. You will definitely want to bring your bug spray in the spring and summertime.  The final container is a .50 caliber ammo can loaded with all kinds of goodies.  The first few finders will have their choice of several CD's with great 1970's tunes on them.  You do not need to leave a trade item to take a CD, but please take only one so that as many cachers as possible will have a chance to enjoy the music.

Note that the township has decided to close the park during the late fall and winter months, when the snow is falling, and during this time, the park entrance will be blocked by a gate.  The cache will be disabled during this time, so you will need to wait until the spring when the park reopens to hunt for this final cache.  All of the other six song clue caches will be available year round.

This series was inspired by the great music of the 1970's, which served as a backdrop to my life as I grew up in Cleveland.  During summer vacations, we would drive all over the country, and the car radio would always be turned on and pumping out those great pop tunes.  The lyrics were infectious and they just compelled you to sing along!  I hope this series brings back as many memories for you as it did for me while I was putting it together.  For those of you who are too young to remember the 1970's, hey, you missed out!  Of course, the 1980's had some great music too!  Hmmmm . . . maybe I need to start working on another music series . . .

This series is also dedicated to the place that I currently call home, Geauga County.  It was hidden in 2006 to commemorate the bicentennial of this beautiful and historic county.  I hope you enjoy the time you spend in Geauga while you search for these caches.  Special thanks goes out to those geocachers whose caching series helped give me a basis to put my own series together, and to mold it into what it has eventually become -- GeaugaGarmin's "Crown Jewel" series, Slandgsmith's "Thinker's Cap" series, The NEOGeodogs' "Miniature Dog" series, and puddles_n_sweat's "Wacky Wabbits" series.  Thanks to all for the great caching adventures!

Have a Nice Day!
