You must pass through the
first and
second doors before this, or all will be in vain.
The ancient city of Varanasi known also as Kashi is situated on
the banks of the holy river Ganges. Varanasi is the city of light,
of death and of liberation, and it has been the home of Shiva since
the dawn of creation. Shiva who is the destroyer, the creator and
the wrathful avenger is a complex deity; a god to both love and
fear. For those who visit Varanasi his presence there is real.
There is a Hindu saying, “Kashi ke kankar Shiva Shankar
hain”, the very stones of Kashi are Shiva.
There is a story of how Shiva took the form of Natarajah, which
is his dancing incarnation. He was walking along the banks of the
Ganges at Varanasi when he saw a girl bathing in the river. She was
singing as she bathed. Her song was a prayer to Shiva; and in that
song she praised him in all his forms. Shiva smiled as he listened;
many people knew 108 or even 1000 of his names, but she knew them
all.
Shiva began to dance, but the girl slipped and was caught by the
current. Her delicate body was dashed against a rock, killing her
instantly. Shiva jumped into the river and pulled the girl to the
bank. There he invoked the power of the jyotirmaya. A
brilliant light shone from his head and she opened her eyes.
The girl recognised him at once. “Lord Shiva, why have you saved
me?”
Shiva replied, “Because of your devotion you have been saved.
From this day you will be called Prabha, which means one who shines
with the universal light.”
“But, my Lord,” she said, “I am not worthy to be known by such a
name.”
She knew that Prabha is also a form of Lakshmi who is the Divine
Mother.
Natarajah who was Shiva said, “Whoever knows all my names is
worthy to be called Prabha.”
Now, my student, you too must know the number of his names so
that you too can be called Prabha.
Then, you must feel Shiva as I felt Him when I travelled to
Varanasi and swam under the sacred waters of the Ganges. I felt his
presence flow through my veins as deeper and deeper I swam, until
only the aching desire to find the jyotirmaya kept me
conscious. Then, as ultimate darkness approached, I found a hidden
cave; a strange air-locked world. And in that cave, I found the
other half of the Sumerian document that I had taken from Hanaan
Abaas Naayef.
The
final door awaits you...
