Geocache Description:

The cache location is not for the feint-hearted, nor for the youngsters among us - might be best to send mum and dad in, carefully.

Peny Spring Wood is so named for the many springs contained within it, and Mr Peny, who built the first house on the grounds. Bordering the wood are the (public) grounds of Peny's Hey - an 18th century country house. The old fields provide wonderful views north across Huddersfield.

This is a lovely wood to wander around and it is accessible from many public footpaths - as can be seen on an Ordnance Survey map of the area (Penny Spring wood is the red circle).

This cache is the home cache of the Beta Boomerang Geocoin - if this GC is in cache, please leave it for the owner to retrieve! It's a clear, snap-lock plastic container. It's in a well used wood so you may need to be sneaky. Due to the trees, your GPS may be a bit crazy, so the hint is pretty blatant. If your not on the western side of the beck, you'll have a long walk ahead of you to find it, and look out for the holly!

This is final of the the three Lower Houses Circular caches - a series caches which are easy to walk between and will show you three urban woods in Huddersfield. The first cache is Squirrel Ditch (LHC 1/3).

The attached way point is one of the many approaches with some parking, but this is also the best entrance to a public footpath leading up to the wood if you are coming from the previous cache ( Oaken Bank). The second waypoint shows a rough exit from the wood that leads back down to the parking waypoint for Squirrel Ditch - most of the paths are local paths however and not shown on official maps! It is also a short-ish walk from here up to Castle hill.
