These caches do not need to be done in order, but
the story flows a logical sense when read in order.
All parts of this story assume Advanced Dungeons
& Dragons 2nd Edition Rules – Monstrous Manual reference. I
know it is archaic now, but the story was written with that
universe in mind.
DRAGONS OF LETHBRIDGE
Few people nowadays remember,
and there are fewer records still about the Dragons of
Lethbridge. Lethbridge provided one of the best breeding grounds and
terrain for Dragons of days gone by. They had been pushed out of
their traditional breeding grounds in Europe, fled from China, and
moved north through the continent from the warmer, more southern
climes to the area of Lethbridge.
The summers were hot, the
winters cold, but the coulee and the Oldman River (during this time known as the
Belly River) provided ample grounds for a small
population of Dragons to flourish. Alas, over time, a great many of
them have vanished, but some clues can be found among the
rubble-strewn areas, where now a highway runs
through.
Part II – the
Scourge
A local dragon that lived
further south on the river had heard of what had happened. It was
not easy to hide the death of another dragon, even if it was one so
young. He was known by the name “Suututtaa”, a name given to him by
the people of Finland when he lived there. Suututtaa took exception
of the killing of one so young, and decided to exact his revenge
upon the local towns.
Coalhurst and Lethbridge suffered many attacks by this devastating
creature, so powerful and awesome in his beauty. During this dark
period of three weeks, the human settlements were totally
defenseless against what they named “The Scourge of the Skies.”
Construction on the trestle had all but halted, the metal having
melted wherever the dragon breathed on it, and the CP Rail sent out
a special liaison to request the assistance of another dragon in
the area.
No one knew where Suututtaa lived, nor were
many brave enough to try and find out. Those few that decided to
take matters into their own hands were never seen again.
To find Suututtaa’s lair:
There is enough information above to
determine what kind of dragon Suututtaa is.
From the posted coordinates:
Subtract: ((The experience points for slaying a
2nd level dragon of this kind / 10) + the minimum
average body length of a 4th level dragon of this
kind) from the northing.
Subtract: Five time the maximum listed damage for a
12th level dragon of this kind for its breath weapon
from the westing.
