Geocache Description:

The Organ Needle is the highest point of the jagged peaks which dominate the Las Cruces skyline. This cache is one of a series designed to assist adventurous geocachers to its top. The cache is not at the posted coordinates so there is no need to go there. Instead you must first find the Juniper Saddle cache.

Dark Canyon is almost always shady and cool. A few tall trees guard its entrance. and the canyon itself is choked with scrub-oaks and thorny brambles. Just getting to the entrance to the canyon can be a struggle though. Coming up from juniper saddle there are numerous different "use-trails" weaving there ways up through the dense scrub. Some of these are pretty easy to follow, as they dodge around various obstacles. Others leave much to be desired. I seem to end up on a different one of these paths every time I hike the Organ Needle. Hopefully you will choose well on your journey.

To get the coordinates for this cache, you must first find Juniper Saddle. Be sure to look under the lid of that cache for the coordinates to this one. When you find this cache you will be at the entrance to Dark Canyon. From here you can go after several different peaks/caches including Little Square-Top and The Twelve Labors of Hercules: Labor 11 (Organ Needle). You will also find under the lid of this cache the coordinates for the Organ Saint: Rites of Passage cache. Be sure to check out each of those cache pages for details on making the final ascents. Some of these require some rock scrambling so be prepared.
