Geocache Description:

Fall Into Geocaching: Salamonie Reservoir:
"Food, Water, and Shelter!"

This cache was created by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks and Reservoirs to promote geocaching in the Indiana State Parks and Reservoirs in the fall of 2006. There are a total of 22 different caches located in 22 different state parks, recreation areas, or reservoirs.

The usual State Park admission is required ($1.00 bicycle, $4.00 in-state weekday, $5.00 weekend, or $7.00 out of state vehicles).
Whether you visit our great State Parks and Reservoirs for a day or an entire weekend, we hope you get out and see all that Indiana has to offer. Be sure to also check out some of the geocaching events going on at various State Parks! Good Luck!!!

Welcome to Salamonie Reservoir! Salamonie Reservoir and Salamonie River State Forest comprise over 12,430 acres. The property also boasts sixty ponds, marshes and wetlands. While there are many recreational opportunities on Salamonie Reservoir, from the air the Upper Wabash Reservoirs (Salamonie, Mississinewa, and Roush) appear as large islands of green in a sea of cultivated farms dotted with small woodlots. This means habitat to migrating birds and a variety of other wildlife!

On a reservoir property, wildlife is managed to help ensure a balanced population. Habitats are created that provide food, water, shelter, and space for the wildlife. Food plots are placed throughout the property, artificial homes may be constructed and placed where animals can use them, ponds are built and space is abundant. Hunting is allowed and used as a tool for population control and recreation. In the last decade wild turkeys and river otters have been reintroduced at Salamonie Reservoir!

Take a moment to watch for the variety of wildlife that can be found at Salamonie while you search for this cache! Enjoy!

The "Fall Into Geocaching" series meets all guidelines set forth in the IDNR Geocaching Policy. If you are interested in placing a geocache in an Indiana State Park or Reservoir, please review our policy at: Link
