Welcome to J. Edward Roush Reservoir (Huntington Lake)! Rich in Miami Indian history, J. Edward Roush Lake and the surrounding area have a lot to offer. Walk the same trails that Little Turtle (war chief of the Miami) once roamed, watch for the many types of wildlife that roam the property, or visit the grave site of Little Turtle's granddaughter Kil-So-Quah.

The cache is located in the Kil-So-Quah State Recreation Area. Born 1810 in what is now Huntington County. She was a granddaughter of Miami Chief Little Turtle. Her second husband was Antoine Revarre; her son Anthony Revarre, lived with her near Roanoke and acted as interpreter since she spoke only Miami. Most of the Miami were removed from Indiana in 1846; an 1850 act of Congress exempted her only son and other Miami people.

She was honored with a grand celebration on her 100th birthday. She died September 4, 1915. For many years, Kiilhsoohkwa (the Miami spelling)cared for a flag reportedly presented to her other grandfather, shimaakanehsia, at the Treaty of Greenville between the U.S. and several Indian tribes 1795. The flag is rare artifact significant in American history and Miami Indian tradition. It was believed that whichever tribe held it would receive good luck.

Imagine being on this land 200 years ago; seeing the sights and walking the trails that the Miami navigated before us. Of course... they didn't have a GPS unit! Enjoy!
