Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are are not the location of the cache container. This is the Bonus Cache for the Arran Industries Series. The cache contaier is a standard ammunition can whose final location will require you to search for the other 11 Arran Industry caches. Each of the other caches containes a clue to the where abouts of the bonus cache and two of the caches have special instructions on how to use this information.

In the late C18th the Duke of Hamilton’s factor on the island, John Burrel, initiated a series of schemes to reorganise land tenure on the island and provide a diversify employment opportunities with the purpose of making the Duke’s Arran estate more profitable. In the decade from 1772 he amalgamated the runrig system of agricultural holdings into small farms and started a number of extractive industries. In addition to the Limestone mines at Corrie quarries were also started for slate at Lochranza and dimension stone for building from the Devonian, Carboniferous and Permian sandstones along the eastc coast. Today there are still active quarries in Triassic flagstones and the Tertiary Central Complex Granite in addition to two gravel pits. However a close inspection of the 1:25,000 Explorer map will reveal a plethora of small quarries old and new throuout the island.

To make your trip to Arran extra interesting you will have to search on some other GeoCaching listing sites to find at least two of the caches.
