Geocache Description:

There are a number of public car parks nearby, but at very quiet times you may even be able to park at the side of the road for a "cache and dash".

Davidson & Company Sirocco Engineering Works

Established in 1881 by Sam Davidson, Sirocco Works was one of the leading makers of rope in the world before focusing on designing and producing machinery for the tea industry. It became a limited company in 1898, by which time the factory covered more than 4 acres. At one time it was one of the biggest employers in Belfast.

The 'Sirocco' is a dry wind that blows across the Sahara. I understand that a visiting tea planter mentioned to Sam Davidson that his tea drier (using a forward bladed centrifugal fan, of his own design) was like the Sirocco wind and from then on it was Davidson and Company, Sirocco Engineering Works.

In 1921, the man who began his career at 18 as a tea planter in India and now with over 120 patents to his name received a KBE from George V, but the fantastic energy he had expended for so long had taken its toll and he died 2 months later.

The MournesRambler I Series

There are 17 caches in the MournesRambler I series which is designed to lure you away from the bright city lights along the Comber Greenway:

The recommended mode of transport for this series is a bicycle, but it should also be quite feasible to complete it on foot. Have you found them all? If you have done them all one after the other please let us know (in your log entry) how long it took you so that others will know roughly how long it might take them.

The "Sirocco Works" cache

The cache itself is a nano containing just a log book, so please bring your own pen/pencil.

It is placed near a very busy road so you will need to take extra care of children and please be discreet when searching for and replacing the cache.
