Geocache Description:

CO-ORDINATES ABOVE ARE NOT THE CACHE LOCATION! THESE ARE THE START CO-ORDINATES ONLY!

You also need to have completed all four "Maths Lessons" to find this cache

PLEASE READ ON:

Welcome to your Maths Exam!

To take this exam you will have completed four “Maths Lessons” caches, each one corresponding to a sector of the current National Curriculum for Mathematics in England. You will have learnt how to complete four types of maths questions, and will have collected four numbers from the caches you have visited. You will need these numbers and your maths knowledge to complete the exam.

The four lessons are:

1. Algebra
2. Shape
3. Number
4. Data Handling

So, onto the exam. Good luck!

EXAM

You will need the four numbers you have collected from within each of the four Maths Lesson caches.

Lesson 1: Algebra this is number ‘A’
Lesson 2: Shape this is number ‘B’
Lesson 3: Number this is number ‘C’
Lesson 4: Data Handling this is number ‘D’

QUESTION 1: ALGEBRA

A large badger weighs ‘A’ lbs.

3 small badgers and 2 large badgers weigh 91 lbs.

How much does a small badger weigh?

3E + 2A = 91 (E is the weight of a small badger, A is the number from cache 1)

You need to know ‘E’ to use for the final co-ordinates.

QUESTION 2: SHAPE

‘B’ is the number from the second cache.

If a tower is ‘B’ metres tall, and I am 181 metres from the top of the tower, how far am I from the base of the tower?

Answer = F metres

You need to know ‘F’ to use for the final co-ordinates.

QUESTION 3: NUMBER

Becky got ‘C’ out of 50 on her English test. (‘C’ is the number from the third cache).

She got 28 out of 35 on her Maths test.

By working out what her percentage was on each test, find out which subject she achieved higher in. Change the first letter of that subject into its position in the alphabet. (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.)

Answer = G

You need to know ‘G’ to use for the final co-ordinates.

QUESTION 4: DATA HANDLING

A boy counted the number of cars passing his house during lunch hour on 7 consecutive days. They were:

D 42 47 60 28 35 49 (D is the number from the fourth cache)

Find the Mean, Median and Range of the cars.

Mean = ?
Median = ?
Range = ?

Answer = Range + Mean – Median
Answer = H

You need to know ‘H’ to use for the final co-ordinates.

STOP WRITING!

You should now have numbers E, F, G and H, which you will need to get the final co-ordinates of the Maths Exam cache, by substituting them as below.

Cache Coordinates =
N53” (E+6).(H+48)4 (In the format of N00” 00.000)
W00(G-2)” (Gx2).(F-34) (In the format of W000” 00.000)

If you want to email the co-ords to me first to check (especially if you are travelling far) then feel free to do so BUT you must declare it on your log! Same goes for any spoiler pics sent. Successful finds will be rewarded with your very own GCSE (General Certificate of Searching Education) certificate which I will email to you. Enjoy the walk, and I hope it has been fun and, dare I say it, educational!

Some notes about the cache itself…

Park near to the Start co-ords listed at the top of this page. The co-ords actually mark the start of a footpath you should head up.
You need to drive up a small lane off a bend to get to the start point. When walking, stick to the paths and you can weave your way to the cache. It’s worth going high to the trig point to take in the views! Don’t cut across country or you may damage the flora.
There are no spoiler pics, but if you get REALLY stuck, I do have some that I can send to you! The area is quite secluded but keep an eye out for curious dog walkers! PLEASE replace the camoflage with care, remember how it was arranged when you removed it.

Thanks!
