Description:

The Beatles started to record the song Let It Be in Twickenham Film Studios on 3 January 1969. The previous day The Beatles begun filming what would become the Let It Be film. This was a very stressful time for all members of the group and with John Lennon having found love in Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney might have been strengthen by the loving support of his deceased mother. This cache is a tribute to the mothers of the Beatles.

The Story:

Paul McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after a dream he had about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles (the "White Album"). McCartney explained that his mother - Mary McCartney who died of an embolism on 31 October 1954 when McCartney was fourteen - was the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric. McCartney later said, "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'." He also said in a later interview about the dream that his mother had told him, "It will be all right, just let it be."

The story of Julia Lennon and her relationship with John is not easy. Julia felt compelled to leave the custody of John to his sister, Mimi. Since Johns father Alf was not present and Julia lived together with another man that was the easiest solution. Julia used to visit John and Mimi and the relationship between mother and son became increasingly better. The relationship ends in July 1958 when Julia is tragically killed after being hit by a police car at Menlove Avenue, where the family lived. Julia's death traumatised the teenage Lennon, and contributed to the emotional difficulties that haunted him for much of his life. Julia's memory inspired songs such as "Julia", "Mother", and "My Mummy's Dead".
