Geocache Description:

In the left hand column below is a chronological list of the thirty geocaching puzzles I have made over the years. In the right hand column is a list of thirty hints (a - dd). Each hint is an important part of the solution of a specific puzzle. Your job is to find a 1-to-1 match of the puzzles and the hints.

Once you think you have all the matches, click on this Check Answers link. When the checker appears enter your 30 matches in the order that the hints appear (a, b, c, ...). If all of your matches are correct the cache coordinates will appear. Otherwise you will be told fix your answers and try again.

There may be an occasional false positive. So as an added check make sure the cache is in a reasonable place within a mile of the coordinates at the top of the listing.

Important Notes:

The Check Answers routine is my first attempt at writing JavaScript. I've tested it successfully on number of different browsers, including Firefox, Google Chrome and Mac Safari. But so far the Check Answer routine does NOT work on Microsoft Internet Explorer. So if that is all you have, please send your answer string to me in an email with a working reply address and I will check it for you.

Another way to solve the puzzle is to hack my encryption routine. I think it will be quite hard, but who knows. I would love to hear if anyone succeeds.

12/17/09 Congratulations to rodgowdy for his rapid FTF. Also nice to know that my JavaScript works on another computer besides mine.

12/18/09 The false positive that was found today wasn't a valid number of minutes of longitude.

08/04/2010: A new cache has been placed at different location. The new one is a micro. As this is sometimes a very public place, be sure to use stealth searching if others are about. See new hide hints below.

08/08/2010: Replaced items p) and v) above with alternative ones that had been in the encrypted hints.

6/25/2012: As I said years ago, my JS code may not work for all combinations of operating systems and browsers. And over the years this has become more true than it was when the listing was was first approved. So, if you have an answer string that you think is correct but you can't get confirmation on your computer, email me the answer string and I will test it on my computer. My PC running Windows XP with a Firefox browser still reveals the hide coordinators when presented with the correct answer string.

6/26/2012: Discovered today that JavaScript calculations give results with a different number of significant digits, depending of the browser. That caused my Check Answers routine to sometimes fail to recognize a correct answer string. Made a one line change in the code that appears to have corrected this problem. Firefox, IE and Chrome now seem to work properly on my PC. I expect that applies for browsers on a MAC as well. Please let me know if you still have problems.
