How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Put simply, any travel bug arriving at a Stargate TB Cache can be transported to another Stargate TB Cache, Worldwide, for eventual pickup.

An instruction sheet is in the cache. Please read it to insure that bugs are handled properly.

Opened up to non-subscribers on October 18th, 2009.

The cache is not on Food Lion property, but is behind it.

This is a combination regular cache/travel bug transportation cache. Please read the entire description prior to visiting the site.

There is plenty of parking near the cache just off Exit 126 on Interstate 95 Southbound or Northbound (US Route 1).

Keep in mind that this Interstate Exit can be a major bottleneck during morning and evening rush hours Monday through Friday, so visit according to best timings.

The longevity of this cache is going to be directly linked to how well each cache finder rehides this cache. Please take a few minutes to do a world-class camouflage job after your find.

If a TB is left in this cache for routing to a valid Stargate destination, the cacher should indicate in the online log where they'd like the traveler to visit next. The TB will be considered for transport to the selected Stargate TB Cache area. For example: if P3898 or Kansas is included in the log entry, that TB will be transported to the Stargate P3898 TB Cache. If the TB is left without a valid Stargate address, or has an invalid address or an address that is currently locked out, it will be transported to a cache that best advances its goal (decided by SGC CO). If travel via the Stargate Network will hinder the TB's goal(s), the TB's travel orders will be revoked.

Note that a cacher removing a tagged bug from the cache for local redirection will also inappropriately void the requested transport. The SGC will then not be able to execute the transport orders for the traveler.

If a TB owner does not want their TB to travel the Stargate network, they should contact me (goingtopot, P3877 via GC1VYZH) and I will revoke its traveling orders. If the cacher dropping off the TB does not want the TB to travel the Stargate network, include this information in the online log. The TB will eventually be moved to another non-Stargate cache as a normal traveling bug.

Anyone interested in establishing a Stargate TB Cache in the US or Canada that is at least 500 miles from any other Stargate TB Cache please contact the concept's originator, drossdross, at Stargate P4079 (GC379JV). Different criteria exists for some other countries/continents, and international information is also available from drossdross at Stargate P4079 (GC379JV).

Size doesn't matter!

(*) TBs traveling overseas, or to other countries, may require multiple wormhole trips to intermediate Stargates to complete their mission. Additionally, a Zero Point Module (ZPM) may be required. Logistics to arrange multiple trips and/or to secure a ZPM may take several weeks or more. If the TB’s Commanding Officer (i.e., owner) does not want the TB to volunteer for such a lengthy, long-distance mission, just quickly contact the owner of originating Stargate TB Cache (goingtopot, at Stargate P 3877, GC1VYZH) and they will revoke the TB’s travel orders - and reassign the TB to local support duties (i.e., redirect the TB to local caches).

Please pick up only non-Stargate related Travel Bugs. That is, if you find a Travel Bug that is waiting for transport to another Stargate TB Cache, please leave it in the cache - it should be in the Transport Only Bag. All others can be considered as regular travel bugs. If you happen to find a bug with a Transport Sticker on it (e.g. - P12130), please place it in the Transport Only Bag. You can identify those types of Stargate related bugs either in the log or by the attached sticker on the bug, if attached.

The terrain can be a bit dicey for some, but you need not do more than visit the cache up or down a slight slope. You should be able to easily move from parking to the cache via your GPS-r readings. Move left off the path toward the cache rather than down into the woods.

While this cache is themed to Travel Bugs, there is a log and trade goods to welcome all geocachers.

This cache is NOT a TB Hotel. Take as many TBs with local missions as you can reasonably help along. Leave as many TBs as you deem proper. DO NOT attempt one-for-one TB swaps, or trading anything for TBs for that matter. The cache is geared toward Bug Movement, and the only considerations in effect are normal trade concepts for non-TB items.

Battlefield transportation not included.

Stargate P3877 is located within the later additions to the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia area.

The City of Fredericksburg (aka fredericksburgva.gov) was established by an act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1728, on land originally patented by John Buckner and Thomas Royston of Essex County in 1681.

It was named for Frederick, Prince of Wales (1707-51), eldest son of King George II of Great Britain and father of King George III. Its older streets still bear the names of members of the British royal family.

Located at the falls of the Rappahannock River, Fredericksburg flourished as a regional marketplace and prosperous seaport before the American Revolution. George Washington's father bought three lots in the town and became one of its trustees; and George's boyhood home, Ferry Farm, lies just across the river, in Stafford County, via Route 3 East.

Visitors today can walk among the more than 350 original 18th and 19th century homes and buildings. Explore the 18th century apothecary shop owned by George Washington's friend, Hugh Mercer or stop in for rousing entertainment at the Rising Sun Tavern, Charles Washington's drinking establishment.

Although the Fredericksburg region is steeped in over 300 years of history, it is the area's part in the Civil War that attracts most of the visitors today. The City of Fredericksburg is strategically located midway between Washington D. C. and Richmond, Virginia.

The City of Fredericksburg was a major objective for both sides during the Civil War. The city changed hands at least seven times and is the site of some of the most intense and crucial battles of the war.

In addition to its attractive history, the area also features hundreds of geocaches of all shapes, sizes, and types. The "Falls of the Rappahannock" and "Alum Springs Park" Earthcaches are within 2-3 miles of the Stargate. Within a four mile radius of the Stargate, one might find 350 caches at any given time.

One can stand on the banks of the river that George Washington allegedly threw his coin across or visit the home where the cherry tree he allegedly cut down might have stood. History abounds for visitors to our city.

The location of the cache gives the visitor an idea of how different contemporary development is when compared to Old Town and considered against the history of the area.
