BT Hike Event - Niagara Section: Part 2 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

res2100: 48 People attended this hike, which was another great turnout. Look for the next hike taking place most likely on Sept 26 and then finishing off the Niagara section on Oct 24.

We're almost (or only depending on how you look at it) 25% done with the entire Bruce Trail, but we got lots of time.

In addition to these Bruce Trail hikes, I've got several other fun caching adventures planned leading up to these, including challenge caching (May 23), fun caching and even a mountain top picnic (gc event) which will "top" [8D] everything.

Thanks again everyone for taking part.

Geocache Description:

Event is on
Saturday

Goal: To hike the next 22km of the Niagara section of the Bruce Trail. The Niagara section is a total of 79.5km in length.

This is the 6th Bruce Trail hike in this series of BT events. We plan to continue with the Niagara section. The total distance of the Niagara section is 79.5km long and we plan to hike this section in 4 parts.

For future hikes, see the schedule linked at the end of the listing. We plan on doing about 4 hikes a year in order to complete my goal of finishing the entire Bruce Trail on my 50th birthday.

I estimate that the entire hike will take about 6.5 hours to complete, so we should be done around 4:00pm. This is at a moderate 3.5km\h pace.

If you can't make the entire hike, maybe join us for part of it atleast. You can always drop out along the way if you feel it's too difficult or too long.

Meet at 9:00am at the posted coordinates, which is the 22.8km mark of the Niagara section of the Bruce Trail which is near the Merritt Trail parking area on the north side of Glendale Avenue. We plan to start hiking around 9:15-9:30am. We will be starting the hike from the SE Corner of Glendale Avenue.

Destination is the 42.4km mark (Edition 25 of Bruce Trail guide) of the Niagara section of the Bruce Trail which is by the Rockway Community Centre. (N43 06.662 W79 19.353)

Parking: There should be more than enough parking at both the beginning and end (Park only on the east side of the building) points of the hike. Hopefully some people will park at the end and carpool back to the starting point both before and after the hike. I plan on parking at the end so I will need a ride to the beginning before the hike.

It might be wise to stash some supplies at certain locations of your choice along the trail so that you don't have to carry everything with you.

What you should bring: Water and other drinks. Food for lunch, dinner and snacks. GPS. Maps. Camera. Cell Phone. First Aid Kit. Advil/Tylenol.

Track our progress as we hike the trail. Don't feel up for the hike, then join us by watching our progress as we go along. Screen will update couple of minutes, but our progress will be updated every hour or so. Thanks to northerpenguin for setting this up.

Badges: Those of us that complete this hike along with the other 3 planned hikes in the Niagara section will qualify for the Niagara End To End badge for hiking the entire Niagara Section of the Bruce Trail. For more information and to obtain a badge, see this Niagara Bruce Trail Club link.
