Current Goal

Kinda like the Lion in the Wizard of Oz ("If I only had a heart"), I, too, pine ... but for a backbone. I'd even settle for a shell. My mission, then, is to get my picture taken with anything living in moist conditions, but with a skeleton or exoskeleton.

Sammy in his natural environment

I started my travels in Lynden, Washington, a quaint small town in Washington's very Northwest corner. Western Washington is renowned for its overcast weather, making it a virtual haven for invertebrates ... especially slugs, which can reach gigantic proportions.

Now that I've jetted around the world, I'm off again soon to fill in my passport with visits to all the states, provinces, countries and continents I've missed on the first circumnavigation. Maybe "Magellan" should now be my middle name (1. I outdid the explorer ... I made it back! 2. My owner uses one (Uh, oh, let's not start any GPSr wars!)).

Yuck!! Slugs. Touched a few too many of those today while searching for caches in White Rock, B.C. They're kind of slimy you know!!! We'll move this one on to another cache.

Sammy hung out at our house for a week and then crawled out of our bag on a rainy day up in British Columbia. There were a lot of his kind out and about, so we left him on the side of a trail.

We'll have to keep Sammy inside while he is at our home. We just planted our lettuce and need to keep all the slugs at bay.
