Geocache Description:

de Lynden Bruggen - VII

Finally, the Final Cache

Quiet Lynden is situated in the center of Whatcom County's coastal plain and serves as the hub of local agriculture. Lynden has been graced with a distinctive Dutch ethnic presence for over a hundred years; we see the effects of that presence on local dairy farms (most cattle are Holstein Frisian, a breed developed in Holland), in land features (lowlands protected by an extensive diking system, a re-routed Nooksack River), and in commercial architecture (including several windmills); not to mention the walking/biking paths along and across local watercourses (our functional equivalent of canals). Lynden is bisected by Fishtrap Creek, so named for a Native American salmon harvesting installation once located near the site of the present Lynden City Park, and it naturally garners no little local attention, as evidenced by some eight pedestrian bruggen found as it wends its way through town.

This is the final cache in the de Lynden Bruggen series--I hope I've been able to introduce you just a bit with Lynden and its bruggen. As before, don't just hop right into your cachemobile, the posted coordinates are NOT the cache location (they'll only take you to the point where Fishtrap Creek first enters the city of Lynden); you must have in hand the final coordinates for all six (6) prior caches in the series to compute the coordinates for this cache. That said, the cache coordinates are:
N48º 56.LATDEC W122º 28.LONGDEC
LATDEC = the sum of the latitude minute decimals for the final (remember, 2 of them are multi-staged) caches in I-VI of de Lynden Bruggen less .121, then x 10-1 (just drop the fourth place)
LONGDEC = the sum of the longitude minute decimals for the final (remember, 2 of them are multi-staged) caches in I-VI of de Lynden Bruggen less 2.164

*** Sadly,de Lynden Bruggen IV & V have been archived ... you can access the page for discovery of the necessary coordinates at GCTV80 and GCTV88. ***

You will want to park at the following coordinates:
N48º 56.LATDEC W122º 28.LONGDEC
LATDEC = the cache's computed latitude decimal, less .101
LONGDEC = the cache's computed longitude decimal, less .089

Well, I certainly hope those who've come this far have enjoyed the series as much as I did putting it together. While, alas, the cache location has no brug of its own, it is indeed Fishtrap Creek related and is situated in one of Lynden's [heretofore] best kept secrets--but not for long, it's now under discussion as a potential new park. While once a Costco® jumbo peanut jar in penance for the series consisting of all micro or small caches, this final container is a decon container only large enough for coins, etc.

One availability note: expect this cache to be temporarily disabled for a portion of each August.

You can check your coordinates at Geochecker.com.
