Trophy Travelbug by TrailRun

I love running trails, and mud's the best,
Please give me a hand in running west.

Basic mission: WEST Please move me west if possible, but if not I'd just like to keep moving. My owner will post his running mileage and see if he can outrun me. My preference is to hit some good trails on the way west, and then to make the jump to Lahaina, Maui.

Although I'm a long way from winning hardware, I love to run, and geocaching has provided me with a lot of new and interesting destinations.

Around the time I turned 40, my brother inspired me to run my first marathon and it has been very rewarding.

I began trail running during marathon training and my favorite events have been on trails, including Dances With Dirt (www.danceswithdirt.com), and the Tecumseh Trail Marathon (www.dinoseries.com).

The starting cache for this TB is near one of my favorite trails. The mud on the trophy was inspired by the "This Sucks" leg of Dances with Dirt. Here's my loooong race report from DWD 2005: (Visit link)

Up until March 12, 2007 I was holding my own against Trophy, but it made a big move and I have some catching up to do. The graph below shows the mileage over time. On November 17, 2007 Trophy reached its goal of reaching Lahaina, Maui and it is now stopped (I hope) with my brother. Maybe sometime I'll catch up. I plan to keep logging miles here as I make progress. (That will be slow in the near future until some knee problems are resolved.)

That's great! Thank you very much. If my brother gets it and locks it up for a while I'll have a glimmer of hope of catching up in miles some day. Not that it's that big of a deal, but it would be an interesting target.

I got a phone call from a friend a few minutes go about this Travel Bug. It seems that I failed to post a note here of my intentions. (I posted it on the cache page.) Sorry about that. Here's the scoop. I have a watch on the local Stargate cache, and I saw the note of Trophy being dropped into the cache to go to Maui. (I also saw the owner's note about it as well.) I didn't think much about it at the time, but later I was reminded that some friends were going to Maui. I had to look to see where the Hawaiian Stargate was located (it's on Oahu), so thought that Trophy might make it to Maui faster via a direct flight to Maui. 🙂 Then I noticed that it had been removed from the cache inventory, but curiously there was no note of it being taken. So I decided to stop by the cache to see if it was there. It was. I picked it up and took it home. I looked it up to see where it was and realized that another cacher had apparently tried to "discover" it, but accidentally grabbed it instead. (I'm not saying who that was, though.) I grabbed it back and passed it on to my friends. It should be placed in a cache in Maui in the next few days. Again, sorry for causing some confusion.

Looks like the stargate misfired. That's OK, but I hope it can make the jump to Hawaii sometime soon. These days my knees are still a problem and I'm beginning to doubt that they are going to bounce back so I can run. But I have to give them some time. If it was last year I'd be able to knock off these recent 14 miles in one run, and I really miss that, especially in the fall. So, I have very few miles to add, and most of them were on an elliptical machine. Trophy is now 6258.69 miles ahead.

A stargate cache! I like it. The goal for the Trophy TB is to go to Hawaii, so "Stargate P21158 TB Cache - Hawaii" would be good. Maui, especially the Lahaina area is the goal. Meantime, I'm still in Virginia somewhere, headed for Montana in terms of mileage. With the addition of 1418.8 miles for Trophy and not too many for me I am now 6260.25 miles behind.
