Current Goal

Trophy Travelbug by TrailRun

I love running trails, and mud's the best,
Please give me a hand in running west.

Basic mission: WEST Please move me west if possible, but if not I'd just like to keep moving. My owner will post his running mileage and see if he can outrun me. My preference is to hit some good trails on the way west, and then to make the jump to Lahaina, Maui.

About This Item

Closeup

Although I'm a long way from winning hardware, I love to run, and geocaching has provided me with a lot of new and interesting destinations.

Around the time I turned 40, my brother inspired me to run my first marathon and it has been very rewarding.

I began trail running during marathon training and my favorite events have been on trails, including Dances With Dirt (www.danceswithdirt.com), and the Tecumseh Trail Marathon (www.dinoseries.com).

The starting cache for this TB is near one of my favorite trails. The mud on the trophy was inspired by the "This Sucks" leg of Dances with Dirt. Here's my loooong race report from DWD 2005: (Visit link)

Up until March 12, 2007 I was holding my own against Trophy, but it made a big move and I have some catching up to do. The graph below shows the mileage over time. On November 17, 2007 Trophy reached its goal of reaching Lahaina, Maui and it is now stopped (I hope) with my brother. Maybe sometime I'll catch up. I plan to keep logging miles here as I make progress. (That will be slow in the near future until some knee problems are resolved.)

Spring is here and it's time to run. I'm now less than 500 miles behind (497.43).

No, no, that's OK. This is far enough. 😮

This is good for two reasons: 1) I've been in a rut running-wise and this gives me a big new goal, and 2) Trophy spent way too much time out of circulation in Texas (but they did eventually put it back in a cache intact).

March 11 I was 724.25 miles ahead. 👍
March 12 I was 598.74 miles behind. 👎

Can I catch up before I get further behind?
Will Trophy get closer to Maui?
We shall see.

I could be really mean.......I could go pick it back up, take it back to Texas next week, then to North Carolina the next week....How evil would that be?

As of 3/4/07 I am 702.45 miles ahead of Trophy. Running has been tough to get done lately with life's busyness and the cold weather.

No. Way. 😮

Hi JBGeo! Schaumberg is a looong way from Texas...and about 10 miles from where Trophy started.

This could be interesting, and I guess I'll probably have some catching up to do soon.

However on this day assuming Trophy wasn't placed yet I'm 636.78 miles ahead.

Found this one while hitting a few caches after working at Randolph AFB today. Will move this one to another cache shortly. TFTB! JBGeo - Schaumburg, IL

At this point I'm 583.25 miles ahead, but at this point the question is not whether Trophy can catch up, but whether it will survive this long stop in Texas. Time will tell.

It's been a good winter for runnning with warmer temps and little ice and snow.

In 2006 I ran the most miles I ever have, and on 12/31/06 I was 439.16 miles ahead of the Trophy TB.

Today I passed 500 miles ahead with 503.5. 😎

But that can change very quickly if the TB makes a big move. 😮
