About This Item

Helmets

1.       One crash kills most helmets. That Styrofoam layer between the shell and your head is your best friend. The expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) crushes under impact to give your head approximately 6/100ths of a second extra stopping time. That 6/100ths of a second can be the difference between you getting back up and riding off and having to relearn the alphabet. The foam also distributes the point of impact over a larger area.

2.       Proper Fit

Your helmet should neither dig into your scalp nor flop around. The better the fit the more protection you will have. To ensure proper adjustment start with the interior pads. Most are held in place with adhesive or hook and loop strips, which can be added or removed to customize fit or to wash when they get dirty. Next adjust the straps so that each V-buckle is positioned right below your ears, then cinch the main buckle so two fingers barely fit between your chin and the strap. To make sure the helmet is fitting correctly push the front of your helmet up. If it moves more than 1 inch, tighten the chin straps. Repeat with the back adjustment.

Took the nerd coin to check out a cotton museum, but we didn't have enough time to go through it. The cache itself was in the nonfunctioning outhouse, and while the container was a nice big ammo can, it was hidden you-know-where! 😈 Helmets needed for trackables that stayed in the cache! Incoming!!! 💀 Eeewwwwwww!!!!

    • Want to stay in this cache, nerd coin???
    • nice banners in the town we just drove through

Time for lunch and time for another state. Forget the helmets... we need our sun hats!

    • The nerd coin made it to Louisiana!
Visited 4/10/2013 sandlanders took it to Grant’s Debacle Louisiana - 5.01 miles  Visit Log

Grant's Debacle was not the nerd coin's debacle. We all had a pleasant visit to this out-of-the-way-and-in-a-different-state part of the Vicksburg military park.

We took the nerd coin with us on our driving tour of the military park at Vicksburg. There were lots of monuments scattered around the park, but we stopped for a while at the official one placed by Wisconsin in honor of the troops from the state who fought here. The monument is topped by an image of the eagle Old Abe, the Civil War mascot that those of us from Wisconsin, including the nerd coin and zoesbrother, should be familiar with.

Today the nerd coin had "fun in the swamp". Zoesbrother should know what that's like. 😉 Different kind of swamp here than back in Wisconsin, though. Tried to find a gator to throw the nerd to, but no luck.

Visited 4/9/2013 sandlanders took it to NATR - Witch Dance Mississippi - 31.75 miles  Visit Log

We got out to stretch at this pullover area, and while we had to count hitching posts to get the final location of the cache, and there was a horse trail we walked down to get there, we didn't see any equestrians while we were there. People who ride horses wear helmets, too.

Zoesbrother would like to ride the Natchez Trace Parkway on his bicycle, and soon after leaving this spot, we encountered the first of maybe half a dozen cyclists we saw on the Trace today.

Visited 4/9/2013 sandlanders took it to NATR - Visitors Welcome Mississippi - 38.95 miles  Visit Log

This was a really neat cache at the Parkway Visitor Center. They don't want any trackables or swag left in the container, so the nerd coin only visited this cache instead of getting dropped off here... 😈

Visited 4/9/2013 sandlanders took it to Mississippi Blues Trail: Elvis Presley Mississippi - 1.05 miles  Visit Log

As long as we were in town... We took the nerd coin to visit the birth place of Elvis. Sorry. We couldn't find a T-shirt in its size to get at the museum shop.

Visited 4/8/2013 sandlanders took it to NATR - Thirteen Unknown Confederates Mississippi - 8.34 miles  Visit Log

Earlier today the nerd coin had accompanied us to the large national cemetery at Shiloh where the Union soldiers were buried, and on our last cache of the day as the sun was getting low, the nerd coin came with us for a brief walk on the Old Trace to visit the graves of thirteen unknown Confederate soldiers.
