About This Item

Hi, I'm the whistle that belongs on Thomas the Tank Engine (those with small kids know who I am). I have lost my train and need to find him. I've forgotten just what he looks like so I need to see lots of different trains to put the right one. I started my adventure with my owner, William. He is 4 and this is his first Travel Bug. He has put a map up on his wall so his Mommy and Daddy can show him where all I have been. Could you help us?

((Additional note since this made the post too long 🙂 : my apologies to the owner for the longevity of keeping this travelbug. We had the most unique opportunity to actually take him to see a life sized Thomas the Tank Engine at the Calera, AL, Heart of Dixie Train Museum and then, real life being what it is, had to take a break from caching due to work and family obligations. He was dropped at a cache after the Spring Fling 2007 event and awaits new adventures from friendly humans. Thank you again, to the owner, for allowing me to share in his travels just a bit - Frettchen))

It was cold and windy when the box opened and someone pulled the little whistle from beneath all the other travelers in the box. "Maybe she'll take me to my train?" thought the whistle. For you see, he was a very special traveler with a very special mission: he needed to find his train, he needed to find Thomas the Tank Engine.

It was a nice winter day, much like this one, when the little whistle heard the song bird. "It's much too cold to be singing today," thought the whistle, "I wonder if he owns one of the humans who ride my train?" And so, curious as only a small whistle can be, he set off to find the bird. In passenger cars and dining cars, over tracks and under turn stiles, the little whistle followed the sound of the song bird. Further and further until his train could no longer be seen. Tired, a little hungry, he stopped under tree to catch his breath as the shadows grew long before him. Shadows? Oh no!! The TRAIN! Fast as he could go, the little whistle ran towards the station, but he was so small, and the trees were so tall...did he turn at this one or that one? Should he go left or right? Oh no...he was lost, and he had lost Thomas, too. Whatever was he to do? Sad, cold, tired, and more than a little hungry, he huddled in a small box to keep the winter wind's chill away and felt very sorry for himself.

It wasn't too long before a nice human found the little whistle and lifted him gently from the box. 'Maybe he'll help me find my train!!' He was so excited that he eagerly went with the human but he was place in another box soon after and got a little disappointed. Still, he enjoyed seeing new humans and new places....he even got to see new trains, but none were his. None were Thomas. And so, on that cold January day, the little whistle was very sad at how long he'd been away. 'I do hope the songbird is alright,' sighed the whistle, 'and didn't lose his human like I lost Thomas.'

The human picked up the sad little whistle and smiled at it, placing him gently in a warm pack with lots of other small travelers. He was happy to meet new friends and see new sights, but he did miss his train so. He traveled a bit but the human did not place him in a new box and he began to wonder if he'd be with this human forever. While he was in a nice warm house with a puppy and a little human, he was eager to get back out and look for his train.

Then one day, the human took him on a drive, longer than others he'd been on. And when they stopped and got out, he couldn't believe his eyes. There was his train! There was Thomas!!! He was so happy he gave a loud toot hello. The train gave a toot in return and they talked about all the times they'd been apart and how much they missed each other. Humans wandered by and Thomas gave many rides that day. Each time he returned, the little whistle and he would speak of their adventures. When it was time for the human to go, the little whistle felt a little sad and confused. For so long, he'd been searching for Thomas and now that he'd found him, he was sad to stop his adventures. So they talked a bit and, with a fond farewell and wish good luck, the little whistle hopped back into the human's pack and left for more adventures. He knew he'd see his train again someday.

He remained in the pack for a long time and wondered when his adventures would start. The humans in the house never seemed to be home, there was even one missing now! Maybe he was off on his own adventures? And then he felt the pack move. 'Hurrah!' he tooted, 'I'm off again!'

He went to a place with a lot of humans and a lot of travelers. When his human found a nice comfy box with lots of friends to keep him company, he was placed....and awaits his adventures anew.
