Current Goal

A while back, IGO member Blue Deuce donated a Groundspeak Volunteer Geocoin to the IGO and suggested that it be used as reward for people who put in extra effort for the good of the IGO or geocaching in Iowa.

About This Item

The following are some guidelines that will be used to determine who will be invited to log the coin:

  • People who participate in an IGO sponsored CITO event.
  • The person or people who lead the planning efforts for one of IGOs large annual events. At present, these are Hike N Seek and Cache Bash.
  • People who are very active in organizing, running and improving the IGO. This could include past and present board members and people who donate significant time or resources to the group.
  • People who put in extra effort to get geocaching accepted in a previously off-limits area. This could include folks who give presentations to town councils or park directors.
  • People who actively promote geocaching/IGO by talking to the media, teaching classes and otherwise exposing non-cachers.
  • People who keep geocaching alive and well by placing a higher-than-average number of high-quality caches.

In short, we are looking for people who take the lead in improving geocaching, the image of geocaching, or the relationships geocachers have with others.

Since this is intended to be a reward, only the "best of the best" will be invited. In addition to the high standards, the coin will be awarded no more than 4 times per year. Once a person has been awarded the coin, that person will not be eligible again for a period of one year. We hope that these limits will make logging this coin something special and will challenge people to give more to the geocaching community.

Cachers can be nominated at any time by sending an email to "iowageocacherspresident@gmail.com" with a few words about what the nominee has done to earn the coin. Nominations will be considered by the IGO board of directors and possibly other geocachers. Please put "Extra Effort Geocoin Nomination" in the subject line of the email. An invitation to log the coin will be awarded to the nominee who is chosen as having done the most to further the IGO and/or geocaching.

Thank you very much for recognizing the hard work of the Hike-N-Seek XIV Planning Team. It was a team effort and I was happy to play my part. Hike-N-Seek XIV was a great success and I hope that HNSXV is even better. Thanks.

On behalf of the entire Hike-n-Seek XIV planning team, we are honored to be awarded with the IGO Extra Effort Coin. We are truly touched that our hard work, planning and organizaton qualified us for such a prestigious award. Having the IGO's biggest event put in our hands was humbling, but we are honored to have hosted all of you in our community.

I would like to thank IGO's Executive Board President a1bob66 for handing this off to me to accept on behalf of our entire planning team. They did a wonderful job of pulling this off in my opinion. Back in 2016, we had a vision and a team of local cachers that were willing to sacrifice their time and talents to help bring a plan into fruition.

I personally refuse to take credit for this event - my ENTIRE team deserves this and my ENTIRE team will be allowed to log this coin. I will discretely share the tracking code with them and allow the the opportunity to enjoy this honor.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! We are humbled by the recognition and humbled by the turnout for this year's event.

Who knew anyone was watching? It is an honor to be recognized for all of the fun I get to have geocaching. IGO President, The Weasel (Tim), caught me in the hall during HNS 2017 and said he had something for me. ????. Should I be scared? Fight or flight? I guess I chose fight, if need be, because I didn't run away. Thankfully, it was a much grander suprise than I had expected. In recognition for all of the volunteer work, events, 101 courses and hikes I have hosted during the past few years for Jackson County Conservation, in support of geocaching, I was presented with the honor of logging this geocoin. I really enjoy the activities and always jump at the chance to support such a worthwhile pastime. There are soo many persons that are worthy of this honor, I hope I get to see through to many more presentations of this coin. Thank you, Tim. Thank you, IGO. Thank you, Jackson County Conservation and thank you geocachers.
