Current Goal

A while back, IGO member Blue Deuce donated a Groundspeak Volunteer Geocoin to the IGO and suggested that it be used as reward for people who put in extra effort for the good of the IGO or geocaching in Iowa.

 

About This Item

The following are some guidelines that will be used to determine who will be invited to log the coin:
 

  • People who participate in an IGO sponsored CITO event.
  • The person or people who lead the planning efforts for one of IGOs large annual events. At present, these are Hike N Seek and Cache Bash.
  • People who are very active in organizing, running and improving the IGO. This could include past and present board members and people who donate significant time or resources to the group.
  • People who put in extra effort to get geocaching accepted in a previously off-limits area. This could include folks who give presentations to town councils or park directors.
  • People who actively promote geocaching/IGO by talking to the media, teaching classes and otherwise exposing non-cachers.
  • People who keep geocaching alive and well by placing a higher-than-average number of high-quality caches.

In short, we are looking for people who take the lead in improving geocaching, the image of geocaching, or the relationships geocachers have with others.

Since this is intended to be a reward, only the "best of the best" will be invited. In addition to the high standards, the coin will be awarded no more than 4 times per year. Once a person has been awarded the coin, that person will not be eligible again for a period of one year. We hope that these limits will make logging this coin something special and will challenge people to give more to the geocaching community.

Cachers can be nominated at any time by sending an email to "iowageocacherspresident@gmail.com" with a few words about what the nominee has done to earn the coin. Nominations will be considered by the IGO board of directors and possibly other geocachers. Please put "Extra Effort Geocoin Nomination" in the subject line of the email. An invitation to log the coin will be awarded to the nominee who is chosen as having done the most to further the IGO and/or geocaching.

Thank you for allowing me to discover this geocoin. I want to thank Team Schnauzer and CaptainJ for herding us cats and leading us to a host a great event (HikeNSeek2017). I hope that we have thrown down the gauntlet and next year will be even bigger and better. Logging this coin is a great honor. Thank you again

about a year and a half ago ,this dude says "hey lets have Hike and Seek in Story County" we had a picnic to discuss it further(not in Kenny's driveway) words were passed ,ideas shared next thing you know it was ON!!!!!
Many meetings later,ups and downs ,peoples schedules got thick and then it was on us ,could have been some scrambling here and there but we as a team persevered and from everything I heard from the cachers I spoke with it was a worthy effort.

It is a privilege to be able to log this geocoin. HNS 2017 has amazing leaders in Team Schnauzer and captainj!

I have learned that sleep doesn’t come easy when geocaching. But it is worth it when I get to hang out with some of the most fun, entertaining, and caring friends!

It was awesome being able to work with the committee over the past year or so. I have truly made some lifelong friends! I look forward to working with everyone again!

Feel honored to have been able to assist with such a great HNS and honored to be able to discover this coin. We aren't big on discovering trackables but the ability to log this one is a privilage.
