Current Goal

The Rusty Spike wants to travel the country, visiting railroad yards, railroad museums and other areas of railroad history. It would also like to meet up with its cousin, The Golden Spike, near Promontory Point, Utah, at the Golden Spike National Historic Site. This guy is really getting a workout too. Let's hope he continues his travels. Here's where he's been so far.

About This Item

The Rusty Spike

The Rusty Spike was forced to stay in one spot for many years, while watching trains travel by, taking goods and people to places unknown. Now that the Rusty Spike has been freed from its earthly bounds, it too, wants to travel far and wide.

The Rusty Spike wants to travel from cache to cache having it's picture taken next to locomotive engines, railroad yards, railroad museums, and railroad historic sites.

Traveling by rail to other caches would be a dream come true for the Rusty Spike. It has always wanted to take a ride on the Reading Railroad, or take the trip from Durango to Silverton in Colorado. Meeting its cousin, the Golden Spike in Utah, would be a highlight as well.

The Rusty Spike has no itinerary, but will rely on the cache hunter to come up with new and interesting adventures for it to take. With this Travel Bug, the journey is the goal.

I grabbed this one from Rattlesnake Pass and planned to move it closer to Promontory Point. However, not being too familiar with the area, I didn't realize it was close already.

After passing the Promontory Point exit on I-84, I tried to find a nearby cache (the only other one in the area I had coords for) but was unable to get to it.

Long story short... It wound up in Cedar City (my bad!) with the note to move it to its original destination at Promontory Point.

Sorry for the delay 😟
