I am in a race that starts October 22, 2016 at the 12th Annual Florida Finders Fest and goes to October 21, 2017 at the 13th Annual Florida First Finders Fest.

I need to gain as many miles as I can and then return to the Ocala National Forest in Ocala, Florida.

Please do not put me in hard to do or seldom found caches as I need to continue to move and pick up many many miles to win this race.

Was planning on paddling or hiking this morning...but the sky looked gloomy and it began to drizzle. Checked the weather reports and apparently there's supposed to be a tropical storm or something. So I stayed home. By mid-afternoon...the skies cleared and my boots were getting bored. So I came to check out this trail. Didn't research or look at any maps. Just headed in the general direction of this cache.
The last 100 ft had a little bushwhacking. Not bad at all. On the way back out...I found a much clearer path.
All is well with this one.

Saw some newly published caches that weren't terribly far.
And I already had my kayak strapped on top of my car.
Normally I don't enjoy paddling on lakes.
But to get a cache, I'll do what it takes.
Quick, easy find here. But...oh no...I forgot a pen!
Had to paddle back to my car...then paddle back out again.
I'll forgo the other caches to give someone else a shot
To get some FTFs...bc 4 in 1 day would be quite a lot.
A quick rain shower caught me by surprise.
But 10 minutes later it was back to clear skies.
If the other caches go a week without being found,
I'll be back over here for a 2nd round.

All is well with this newborn.

Had lunch in Crystal River. Then came here bc Lil Shark Park is dog-friendly.
I actually didn't expect to find this cache so quickly bc of the difficulty rating. However, I found it in under 2 minutes...which leads me to believe it's not exactly where it should be. Either way...I got my name on the log and replaced as found.
All is well with it.

Needed a break from Coronavirus + social injustice drama.
Got the FTF here and immediately met the famous MiniMama!
It was nice to put a face to another familiar name.
Traded stories about hikes + paddles + this wonderful game.
We stayed socially distant...so there were no handshakes.
But it was still an enjoyable meeting at this chain of lakes.
Then the CO drove by to introduce herself and offer congratulations.
All is well with this newborn...come and check out this pretty location!

Woke up early and didn’t have a good enough reason not to come for this.
Coords slightly off...but quick/easy find if you just check all nearby possibilities.
It was actually far too visible from a distance...so I hid it better than I found it.

My parents wanted me to take them on a quick/easy hike for their anniversary + Father's Day.
This was the perfect place.

I planned on getting this yesterday after the nearby 'Pig's Heaven' near RIVER WOODS Park. But it had started to rain and my muggle friend wasn't into the idea of a potentially muddy bushwhacking situation all the way from the West side.
This morning...I did a quick hike with some friends in Titusville. Decided to pass by here en route to Longwood. RIVERSIDE Park is muuuch nicer. The trailhead behind the bandshell isn't clearly marked though...and I ended up bushwhacking maybe 0.2 miles. Luckily it wasn't bad at all.

Came out to a clearing and my first glimpse of the river. I thought that looked like a clear, easy place to wade across if nothing upstream was better. Fortunately there are so many places to cross with relative ease right now.

I got to where my phone showed GZ and found nothing. Figured tree-coverage would be an issue 'round these parts...so I just expanded my search radius and started checking random spots I'd hide a cache. Found it in about 5 mins.

I always CITO. Plenty of bottles as usual...but I also found part of cheap boat maybe? Packed it all the way back out to the pavilion.

Interesting note for future cachers...on the way back to the trailhead...I saw a decently-sized gator at the exact spot I had previously considered wading to the other side. The area looks super clear and shallow. The gator happened to be moving when I was passing by the bank. It moved about 4 feet and disappeared very quickly.
Very.
Quickly.
Just Gone.
Use caution.
Stay vigilant.

Favourite point earned for an adventurous problem to solve that was both quick and easy.
Also...it was about 2.5 years lonely!
All is well with the cache.

Came out for a very quick + easy hike with a couple friends and their children.
Found the container just laying in the open. Signed log and placed it in a spot that isn't as visible from the trail.

I didn't see the 2 trackables listed as currently being in here:
1. World's Smallest Political Quiz - Rose Wilder Lane (TB7K3HN)
2. 15 Year Anniversary Tag (TB8DM6X)

Because I always pick up trash while caching...I admit I removed something from the container.
I removed a braid.
It looked and felt like human hair.
That is weird.
And disgusting.
Please don't leave anything that comes off the body of any living creature.
Gross.

Was planning on getting here first thing in the morning to beat the heat. But...well...delays, life, etc.
Got out here around 15:30. Within in 3 minutes of the hike...I saw 5 or 6 tortoises just meandering on the trail. Even saw a tiny baby snacking on some leaves.
A slight drizzle began when I was at the turnoff from the trail.. Pressed onward because a little rain was never the end of the world. But I'm glad it wasn't a heavy downpour. Finding my way back out of the sticks wasn't very clear cut...and adding mud to that situation certainly would not have helped.
Got my signature on the log, replaced as found, and headed back to my car in case this storm was real. Of course it stopped the moment I saw the parking lot. Will have to return for the others in the area that are calling my name.
Thanks for filling another box on my D/T grid!

Snagged another of your hides yesterday. Went for it specifically bc it was almost 4 years lonely.
Took a peek at my statistics and decided I should finally fill my D/T grid. Set the requisite filters on a search and saw this cache. It has a D/T combination I need...isn't too far from home...and would introduce me to trail I'd never hiked. And this one got bonus points bc it's lonely!
I didn't expect to have difficulty once at GZ. I guess I have been caching with an incorrect definition of 'Difficulty' vs 'Terrain.' I thought 'Terrain' was how challenging the journey is to get TO GZ...while 'Difficulty' is how challenging it is while you are AT GZ. Any clarification on other interpretations regarding the difference would be appreciated.

Personally...I'd have rated my journey with this cache the exact opposite way. The hike was the easiest part for me. At GZ...I spent 45 mins searching...researching the cache page...and re-searching the area. Expanded my line of sight past where I thought was possible to reach physically...and finally caught a glimpse of this fella. I'm sure this is a bit more difficult to get now than it was on the day it was hidden...or even at the last find over a year ago. Thought I'd have to return with a friend or a different plan. But I'm stubborn and proud...and had a lot of paracord with me...so I figured out a way...and got my name on the log all by my lonesome.

CITOd as always. Didn't find much trash...but I did find an entire curbside-style trash can in the woods. I dragged it about a mile and left it at the small building near the trail head.

Favourite point earned for the ingenuity I had to muster + the atypical amount of physical effort exerted to accomplish the goal.
All is well with the cache.
