Current Goal

No mission anymore. Just a discoverable code on my car, Millie kestrel.

Please disregard everything below this line. That is the previous mission.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am in a race that starts October 22, 2016 at the 12th Annual Florida Finders Fest and goes to October 21, 2017 at the 13th Annual Florida First Finders Fest.

I need to gain as many miles as I can and then return to the Ocala National Forest in Ocala, Florida.

Please do not put me in hard to do or seldom found caches as I need to continue to move and pick up many many miles to win this race.

Please DO NOT hold onto me, keep me moving!

I normally assume I can't figure out puzzle caches...but I was bored last night and started researching cryptograms and ciphers. Surprisingly...I solved this one pretty quickly. Then I saw it was last found in 2016!
Checking the coords...I realized I'd actually hiked to this exact location 2 days ago. I also plan to return to these trails to train for some long hikes. It's a grueling trek in the sun and the sand with a loaded pack...but it's doable. And if it's for an almost-4-year lonely cache...I had no reason not to hunt this today. Just crossed my fingers and hoped it wasn't engulfed in flames like much of this area.
I've never drenched a tshirt with as much sweat as I have on this hike today. I signed the lonely log...laid my soaked shirt on a bush to sun dry...and ate breakfast. I thought I'd share a picture of the melted ziploc bag to show what the container withstood...but I see now that the internal damage to the cache was here since the last find.
I was teaching my muggle friend about geocaching during this hike. A story came up about meeting a specific local legend cacher. That cacher was you. Then at GZ...I realized this is your cache! Then I saw you messaged me about something completely irrelevant! It's been bobbybear kinda day.
Favourite point earned.
All is well with the cache.

Came to explore parts of these trails I've never seen. Saw a deer, a tortoise, and even came across a mostly intact skeleton. Raccoon, fox, possum? I don't know. But it was an interesting discovery.
I wonder where I can find a good map of the trails and more detailed information about this area than was available at Katie's Landing.
I wonder what was the initial purpose of this tiny side-trail to a roundabout.
Tweezers certainly would have been helpful.
All is well with the cache.

I had found one of your previous hides and remember thinking it was inappropriate. It was a glass container with no identifying labels/markings, not well hidden, and laying in an area with an abundance of trash.
This morning I found this new hide. All of my concerns for the previous hide are also valid for this new one. In fact, I had quit searching and decided just to collect trash when I accidentally found it.
I don't see anywhere that the official guidelines specifically prohibit the use of glass containers. But I found other broken glass items in the area and it seemed unsafe to be digging around there without gloves.
I removed as much trash as possible and left the container hidden better than I found it. But I still think it should be removed or replaced.

Stopped to chat with a couple other hikers at this intersection.
Container was very visible and wasn't very secure. I fixed this with a suspicious pile of pine cones.
All is well with it.

Been wanting to paddle here for the last 16 years but never pulled the trigger. Always heard about monkeys here...but wanted to see them for myself before believing the legends.
Someone posted some beautiful pictures of this river on a kayaker group on thefacebook a few days ago. Pictures of monkeys and otters were enticing...but the sunken boat was the deciding factor. A boat was purposefully sunken somewhere nearby for a 1959 Jerry Lewis film. Apparently it's much easier to see right now due to significantly reduced traffic along the river because of the current Covid-19 situation.

A friend and I launched from Ray's Wayside Park and headed upstream. 4 gators and maybe 100 turtles later...still no monkeys. So I guess the myth will persist until I return for round 2.

Made this easy find and parked our yaks in the nearby lagoon for lunch. We never did see the boat we wanted to find...but there was another small boat sunken just feet from the shore by the campsites. Apparently there are several submerged crafts along this river.

I actually accidentally found another geocache by a rope swing about 3-4 miles downstream...but I don't see it listed on the map. Weird.

Unfortunately I didn't bring a pen...so I will send a picture to CO for proof of find.
Favourite point for this beautiful adventure.
Anyway...all is well with the container here.

Somehow couldn’t find this a few years ago. Easy find here today after a pandemic paddle.
No problem taking off the lid. Unfortunately had no writing instrument. Will send picture to CO for proof of find.
All is well with it.

Been paddling this area while everyone else seems to be freaking out about this pandemic for the last few days.
Realized there's a cache here that needed to be found. Based on the D/T rating and the likelihood of tree coverage being a concern...I assumed I'd be going in circles for quite some time. But yesterday I wanted to prioritize paddling...so I only popped out of my kayak for a few minutes just to take a quick peek at the area to see what was in store for me.
Today...GZ (according to my phone) yielded nothing for me. Checked some other likely spots very nearby...but still nothing. Pocketed my phone and went to another spot to distract myself with a good view. And like magic...the cache presented itself. Now I can't unsee it. It will be a fun little moment for me to peek over and check on it every time I come here in the future.
Not sure I'd have given it such a high T rating...but I'm glad to fill that box in my fizzy grid.
All is well with it.

Was planning on getting my 1000th find on a hike in Banff, Canada. Then the Coronavirus happened. Figured a pandemic paddle would be a satisfactory replacement for adventure. Forgot there was a cache here that I've never found...until I was 0.2 miles away. If I couldn't get this 1000-find milestone up on a mountain...the best alternative is a on river.
Favourite point earned for being a paddle cache + being a milestone + keeping me "socially isolated!"
