GC #1003.
Been wanting to paddle here for the last 16 years but never pulled the trigger. Always heard about monkeys here...but wanted to see them for myself before believing the legends.
Someone posted some beautiful pictures of this river on a kayaker group on thefacebook a few days ago. Pictures of monkeys and otters were enticing...but the sunken boat was the deciding factor. A boat was purposefully sunken somewhere nearby for a 1959 Jerry Lewis film. Apparently it's much easier to see right now due to significantly reduced traffic along the river because of the current Covid-19 situation.
A friend and I launched from Ray's Wayside Park and headed upstream. 4 gators and maybe 100 turtles later...still no monkeys. So I guess the myth will persist until I return for round 2.
Made this easy find and parked our yaks in the nearby lagoon for lunch. We never did see the boat we wanted to find...but there was another small boat sunken just feet from the shore by the campsites. Apparently there are several submerged crafts along this river.
I actually accidentally found another geocache by a rope swing about 3-4 miles downstream...but I don't see it listed on the map. Weird.
Unfortunately I didn't bring a pen...so I will send a picture to CO for proof of find.
Favourite point for this beautiful adventure.
Anyway...all is well with the container here.
