About This Item

Spirit of Florida

This walking stick has no home. It is not to be owned but shared. If you are lucky enough to gain possession of this stick treat it well. Add your mark by carving, painting, or beautifying the stick as you wish. Please use only the room you need so that as many geocachers as possible have the opportunity to add their mark also. In order for this stick to move from one cacher to onother please place it in a cache and let all cachers have a fair chance at finding it. This stick must only be placed in worthy Florida caches. Do not place the stick in a location where the sticks spirit will be compromised. When placing the stick "in" a cache you may either place in next to the container itself or give direction how to find the stick inside the cache (new coordinates or similar). The stick is fond of Florida and does not like to travel outside the state borders. Move the stick around the state as much as possible so all may have a fair chance for a visit with the stick. Once you have found the stick and added your mark it is fair to obtain the stick again if sufficient time has past. Post as many pictures of the sticks adventures so the spirit may be shared with others.

This stick is a piece of Black Mangrove that was obtained from a site just North of downtown Miami. The cutting of any Mangrove in Florida is punishable by fine but do not worry, this mangrove piece was taken legally.

Retrieve It from a Cache 3/10/2009 bottleboy retrieved it from Withlacoochee Citrus Again Florida   Visit Log

WOW!! So, after getting to discover the spirit at an event it was decided that we just had to have this one in our hands to make our mark on it. "Mr." Bottleboy has watched closely, waiting with anticipation for this one to be dropped so that we could be the next to have it. After seeing that FSU Dad had made the placement we ran out as soon as we could, hoping not to see someone else walking up the trail with it already in hand. FSU Dad was not kidding when he said that someone was going to have to work to get this one. It was almost a 4 mile treck out to the cache itself where the instructions were to get to the actual hiding place, and we were on a time limit. We knew we were out of shape, but didn't realize HOW out of shape we are. Up and down hills through some soft terrain and some nice hard ground all on bike just to find out that the spirit stick was actually 3/4s of the way BACK to the car. Thank God we did not have to go further to get to it, otherwise it would have been back again on another trip. As it was, we just barely made it back in the time we needed to. Thank you for sharing! We will place it again after we make our mark.

1/19/2006...that's when I made my mark and placed this awesome
TB...over 3 years later it's finally made its way back to Lakeland and I think we've placed it in the manner originally intended...Whoever gets it next will have worked for it...Have fun!

The coordinates for the location of the Spirit of Florida TB are located in this cache...

Retrieve It from a Cache 2/24/2009 FSUDad retrieved it from Another Event Along the Way Florida   Visit Log

Jersey Girl and I have the Spirit of Florida in our possession... But don't worry tiki-4, we originally found it the old fashion way, back before it was kidnapped by the folks from NEFGA... IceCreamMan, Paintfiction, The Fed and anyone else up there that had it in their possession for over a year.

If the TB owner does not want anyone to discover the Spirit of Florida, than as the TB owner they have the ability to delete any of the "discover" logs if they want to... There is a big difference between discovering this TB and actually retrieving it from a cache and being able to make your mark on it before passing it along.

Instructions on how to find this TB will be placed in a cache soon, and I promise it will not be a park and grab...

If you don't actually have "possession" of the TB usually geocachers see the TB in someone's possession and then discovers it! Then they get an icon if its a coin or another TB count towards their stats! Discovery is a good thing.

I have not been heavily involved in geocaching for a while now. Is it not the new think to "discover" travel bugs? What is the general consensus on this?

Gee.....
i guess the value of getting this stick is now the same as any other TB because someone has decided to let everyone 'discover' it instead of making them track it down and getting it the old fashioned way.

Saw this piece of art in the hands of JG at the event "Another event Along the Way". It was her birthday and what a delightful way to celebrate with holding that majestic piece in her hands. We would love to find it one day but think we'll have to stand in line for a long time.

I was excited to meet the stick, I did not know it existed when I saw it it gave me something to look forward too. I put it on my watchlist to see where it travels, I also thought all of this was in fun and everything was up for discovery once it left the hands of the owner it is on its own, Keep discovering just don't keep it. Awsome spirit stick gives us a new goal. Thanks for letting us discover it at another event along the way was in the hands of Jersey girl.
